Planning to update my T'au Empire army with the release of the new codex next week, but I figured I'd take stock of what I currently had and re-tool it into an working list first. Wanted to get advice on what Sept this list would work best with (my current paint scheme says Dal'yth, but my heart says Vio'rla)

Vanguard Detachment - 825 points
HQ
1) Commander in XV86 Coldstar Battlesuit:
- 2x Fusion Blaster, Shield Generator, Velocity Tracker

ELITES
1) 6x Stealthsuits:
- 4x Burstcannon and Advanced Targeting System
- 2x Fusion Blaster

2) 6x Stealthsuits:
- 4x Burstcannon and Advanced Targeting System
- 2x Fusion Blaster

3) 1x Ghostkeel
- Fusion Collider and 2x Fusion Blaster
- Target Lock and Shield Generator

Outrider Detachment - 175 points
HQ
1) 1x Cadre Fireblade

FAST ATTACK
1) 5x Pathfinders

2) 5x Pathfinders

3) 5x Tactical Drones:
- 2x Marker Drone, 2x Shield Drone, 1x Gun Drone

For expansion, I was thinking of adding more Pathfinders to beef up my markerlight count. I also have a squad of Firewarriors currently sitting on the shelf so I figured I'd add some Kroot and cheap HQ's for a Battalion detachment at some point. I'm also considering just flooding the field with more Stealthsuit teams, but a part of me really, really wants to get a Riptide as well.

Thanks for your thoughts!

- Medusa V Veterans, Konor Veterans

Hi there,

I like the look of your list but I have a few suggestions. With regards to the sept, the paint scheme really doesn't matter- I believe the T'au were known to change the coloration of their armour depending on the environment they were in. I would say the best Sept for your list would be Sa'cea, as it would allow you to reroll those all important fusion blaster shots and would mean perhaps you would need less markerlights when you expand.

On the lines of expansion, I would recommend putting fire warriors in your Outrider detachment and perhaps making it Bork'an, as they will synergise well with the cadre fireblade and can put out decent firepower for their point cost. The HBC riptide looks like it will be quite good this edition so I think that would also be a good option.

I was also wondering why your stealth suits are in units of 6s , rather than 3s because in units of threes, they would be more versatile and more immune to death by moral checks.

Thanks for the heads up! Was the re-roll with the Sa'cea Sept a stratagem or a Warlord trait? I missed that in the leaks.

I originally put my Stealthsuits into units of 6 as that would give me less units to deploy meaning I would usually get first turn - since most of my weapons are shorter range, I find it useful to go first in order to get the jump on my opponent with my fusion blasters.

The re-roll is a sept tenent (army wide ability) - you can reroll a failed hit roll for each unit with the Sa'cea sept keyword and increase everyone's leadership by one, which is also good for large unit sizes.

I don't recommend ats on stealth suites since it costs more than the weapon it buffs. I suggest sa'cea for the ghostkeel and 2x3 stealth suits with commander who can give ap-1 vs a target on wound of 6 with a Warlord trait.

Pathfinder don't necessarily last long so I'd suggest dal'yth or a large unit with sa'cea.

I wouldn't bother with kroot. Pathfinder can scout like them and strike teams can fill slots cheaper.

I would also just point out that ghostkeels and stealth suits get squishy against reapers due to no - to hits.
Firewarriors with a firblade can make a good firebase to work up from. Though a farsight crisis suit bomb has the advantage of being safe from alphastirkes if thats something you face. And with strat are hitting on 3+ through down some markerlights and it gets nasty.

Also i'd give your fireblade the puretide chip for CP's on a 6+
