Can necrons be made into a gunline or heavy shooty army? I'm new to the necrons and wanted a shooty army and Tau seems to not fit my flavour

the majoirty of weapons the necrons have have a range of 24" they can't be a gunline as a lot of other armies can outrange them but they are a heavy shooty army.

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

Arguably, Necrons already are a shooty army. You just have to be a bit more mobile. You cannot just sit back and shoot, you have to get in range.

Luckily, Necrons have plenty of tricks to make this happen, as well as several decent melee units to support the shooty units that WILL be at close range.

Necrons are not Tau so no you won't be successful just sitting back and shooting. That said, they are a shooty focused army but are mid-range with most around 24". With the new dex you have a lot of mobile shooting options in the form of destroyers and tomb blades and solid foot shooting ith immortals and warriors. Vehicles are still medium range for the most part. Necrons reward tight phalanx style play with overlapping support.

on the forum. Obviously

Necrons are indeed a shooting army, but they aren't long range like Tau and Guard, and they have good CC units. Their CC units are more like counter-cc units than true assault units like Assault Marines, as they are slow with no cheap transport or mobility options.

Wraiths and Scarabs are probably the fastest cc unit they have, and one of those is cannon fodder.

Necrons are very shooty, tomb blades probably being the star shooting unit right now, basically very fast, durable shooty jet bikes that can put out an incredible amount of firepower.
