With the last codex I made a close combat tau army (yes I know that is almost an oxymoron) that actually worked at 2,000 points.

Basically, I had Angor prok and Aunshi as HQ's with some tau units for fire support. The rest was a TON of kroot. Well with the new codex, things had to change. Here is what I am thinking. Help me iron it out.

Shadowsun

6-man Stealth suit with 6 gun drones

6-man Stealth suit with 6 gun drones

12 fire warriors with 2 gun drones, a leader and a bonding knife

20 kroot with a shaper and 6 kroot hounds

20 kroot with a shaper and 5 kroot hounds

20 kroot with a shaper and 5 kroot hounds

8-man pathfinder team  with a leader, bonding knife, and 3 rail-rifles. The Devilfish having decoy launchers and Flechette.

2- Mounted Great Knarlocks with Explosive bolts

Broadside with plasma rifles, sheild generator, and muti-track

I was also thinking of substituting the pathfinder team for Angor prok and another team of 13 kroot and 8 more kroothounds. That way I could have the Re-roles to hit in Close combat and totally swamp enemies while using the broadsides and stealth suits to hit stragelers or especially nasty targets.

errm. I guess

Put shield drones instead of generators on those broadsides at the very least. They are your ONLY antitank guns of any real consequence.

Buy crisis instead of those stealths man. yer gonna be seriously missing the S7/S6 guns.

I know nothing about knarlocs but i can't imagine they have enough Ap2 to substitute crisis suits.

Dunno about those shasuis and bonding knives and such. railrifles are also kinda iffy in value, but maybe.

Broadsides can only have ONE support system.

Team leaders.

I'd give them:

Plasma, ASS, team leader: HW multitracker and drone controller with 2 shield drones.

That's about the best loadout I can see for a single broadside.

Well, in that case wouldn't it be more efficient to make 2 squads of two with team leaders with Target Locks and Shield Drones?

hiding two broadsides behind 2 shield drones doesn't seem much more effective to me than hiding one behind 2 shield drones.

can't take multiple team leaders as far as I'm aware (though it'd be funny if they forgot to include that restriction)

The great Knarlocks are great. Good strenth, Fleet of foot, Decent number of attacks, and rending.

Oh, and the only reason I have sheild generators instead of sheild drones is so that the Broadsides don't suffer from last man standing.

meh, a single 4+ save or 3 4+ saves.

In the time it takes to kill two 2+/4+ saves you've lived so much longer (twice as long), I think it's worth it. Since it's on LD10 from shadowsun most likely
