Hey forum people,
I've been interested in 40k for a while but finally decided to actually get into it. The most attractive faction for me seems to be Imperial Guard so I joined here hoping to get some good advice for building armies and getting started on the right foot.

I'm told that there is a codex for the Imperial Guard, so I'd invest in that before anything else. It's unfortunate that you are under the enslavement of the Corpse Emperor though; true power is on the side of Chaos. What particular flavor of IG were you thinking of playing (Catachan, Mordian, etc.)?

I'm not sure about that False Emperor stuff, but thanks! The Steel Legion caught my eye so thats what I'll be playing. I want to build a list that leans heavily on flyers because they're pretty much the coolest things ever. I have the IG codex, but most of it is still just numbers to me...

Welcome to dakka fellow IG player!
My biggest tip would be not to buy too many things at once, instead buy new things once you’ve painted up what you got already. The paint war is long and without respite for us guardsmen.
