Could your tournament lists handle 3 of these each nova charging every turn to have a 3++? Watched a list like this today and looking over my TAC ITC lists i don't think any of them could have dealt with them.

We'll have to wait a few weeks to verify, but I suspect my tournament lists are going to start featuring more wyches. Between my reapers/deepstriking fire dragons and my wyches, I should have a good shot of killing one a turn and tying up at least one more with No Escape.

ATTENTION. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

If they're 3++ing, they're not getting the bonus offense, so they're not that big of a deal. plus you don't have to kill them to make them basically worthless.

One Riptide is a big deal due to the stratagem giving it offense and 3++, but additional riptides are not worth it. Not enough dakka for the cost, just put them at the lowest priority in targeting. The single Riptide can be dealt with targeted debuffs. A simple -1 to hit on it will make it a bad investment.

I tend to agree.
Since you can only use the 'branched nova charge' stratagem once a turn I feel like taking multiple Riptides becomes less desirable. Being able to fire the nova profile and throw up those 3++ defenses makes it click, otherwise going 3++ on all of your suits just means you're not throwing out enough shots for the ~900pts and switching to the nova profile on any of them makes it an obvious target.
Of course that's just theory from reading the codex, but I'd probably try to run only one or two tides and support them with shield generator equipped Ghostkeels if I need more big durable suits.

Any tournament green tide list should handle tau quite well. Those orks may not kill all the big stuff, but 40k isn't about (only) killing units, it's about scoring more points. Especially in tournaments, where games last 3 turns and tabling the opponent is less common.

Strip that X++ with Death Hex and call it a day with AC/LC fire while getting into melee with the other two. Or run some Drukhari Wytches with a Shardnet to get into melee with them while you gun down the rest of the army.

Yeah, I agree with others that they don't seem that scary if they're always using their nova charge for a 3++. At most they get 12 S6 AP-2 D:2 shots (with an ATS) and then 2 18" melta shots. For 280 points that's not wonderful. Like, a Chaos Fire Raptor is 302 and gets 10 of those S6 shots and 2 shots that are nearly as good as the fusion blasters, but then also 24 S5 AP-1 shots. And the Fire Raptor is BS3+.
So just shoot other things instead, and maybe put some MWs or AP-1 into the Riptides if you have them.

Has No Escape changed, it used to only effect infantry?
