Subject: Warp Talons and Possessed for World Eaters and /or Chaos Renegades

I have 10 Warp talons I was thinking of using for either my Renegades or World Eaters. Any thoughts as which Legion would they serve better? Advance and charge is great, but so is +1 attack for charging. For the alpha strike Warp time my Renegades have two jump sorcerers.
I also have 10 Wrathmongers bits sets from Age of Sigmar and am on the fence about whether I should use them for a cool Possessed conversion for my 40k armies or as Wrathmongers for Sigmar. They're okay in Sigmar but seems like the Possessed in a Kharybdis or Dreadclaw would be pretty dang awesome. And then if useable in 40k would World Eaters or Renegades more suit them?
Do Possessed take up two transport slots? Fitting 20 in a Kharybdis would be super kick ass! They're increased strength, 2 wounds , and rend -2 makes me think they are as good as Warp Talons aside from slower and on foot.

Possessed are viable this edition, even though they're held back by their D3 attacks. If you want to use one large unit of them I'd always keep some CP back for that attack roll.
The nice thing about possessed is that they have synergies with CSM and Daemons, so they could profit from a lot of psychic powers and auras.
As for your question about which legion tactic to use I'd say you only need renegades when you let them footslog.

Mellee is allready inherently unreliable. Having d3 attacks on a unit that's supposed to kill stuff in mellee is really not great. It seems there is not much reason in taking possessed over zerkers if you're not planning on some daemon shenanigans going on.

Being able to advance and barge warp talons would be pretty powerful, but I imagine what you'd do is deep strike then and go for the alpha strike charge. Having come down at the end of the movement phase, they are unable to advance and so renegades won't benefit them in this scenario.
Ironically, what would be best is World Eater warp talons, backed up by non-marketable sorcerer's from a different detachment. Personally I find this too fluff breaking, but it is an option. Advance and charge would only be useful for the talons if you needed to zip across the battlefield without deep striking - if you deep struck assume you'll be right up in your opponent's grill and you won't need that kind of insane mobility.
As for possessed, I quite like them. Fairly durable these days with 2 wounds, but the random attacks isn't the best. World Eaters would make them better on the charge, but if you have no delivery strategy then renegades is useful to get them in.

Do you know what your sin is, Malcolm Reynolds?
Ah hell, I'm a fan of all seven.
But right now, I'm gonna have to go with wrath. |

World Eaters makes both possessed and talons better. For extra synergy you can deep strike a herald or daemon codex prince for rerolls on the charge. I used a ln 8 man talons squad the other day, got the reroll and promptly deleted a squad of 10 Immortals. If you're smart about deep strike placement you should be able to consolidate into another squad.

I definitely have a Khorne daemon prince and herald on the modeling deck, summoning the herald most likely from perhaps an exalted champion who can ride in my Khorne dreadclaw.
I also don't like the idea of using sorcerers in the same army as World Eaters but that Warp Talon deepstrike shenanigans with an extra attack is so tempting....I'd save the fluff breaking for the right venue.
I think my World Eaters need the help more. The Renegade Sons of Malice can have my remaining bikers to zip across no mans and turn 1. Thanks for the inputs!

Don't summon the herald or prince, use the deep strike strategem. Much better tactically.

True, less random. I should have enough CPs leftover for other things like VOLTW and such.

A wee trick i have been using for my unit of 10 warptalons is to mark them nurgle and drop in a herald beside a jumpack sorcerer. Gotta make sure the sorcerer and herald are out of DTW range but then its spell time. So they have NURGLE DAEMON so i cast virulent blessing on them with the herald for +1 to wound and +1 damage on 7+ and warptime to jump them in. Daisy chained back to 6"of the herald for +1str and +1 damage on a 6 to wound. Then popping VoTLW before they attack and they are swinging in with attacks that do 3d on a 5+ and 2d on a 4 with rerolls to wound on str5 vs original toughness. So say they are swinging vs t7 you can reroll all 1-4s, actually wounding on 3s so you reroll all the fails and mediocre damage to hunt for 5+. For absolute maxinum shenanigans you can drop in a prince and use your second cast with the sorerer to priecence them for hitting on 2s rerolling 1s to hit and make them world eaters for +1 attack on the charge. (Edit: worldeaters must be khorne so no) So 60 attacks hitting on 2s rerolling 1s, wounding on +2 with str5 and full reroll, 2d on 4s, 3d on 5+, ap -2. Probably not the most efficient use of points and not exactly the most reliable but i'm in it for the lols.
