What weapon do the pushfit Primaris marines have?

I'm looking at one sitting on my desk and it looks a hell of a lot like a "bolt rifle" as depicted on page 60 of the rulebook.

That's good so far. Right?

Now I got a 30th anniversary Primaris Sergeant box (don't worry, no money was spent on it by anyone) from a friend for my cheap-ass primaris project. On the back of the box it has this picture:

That looks like the same bolt rifle, but here it's a "stalker bolt rifle".

Now, the Captain description on the GW site ( https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Primaris-Space-Marines-Captain ) says in the description:
he carries in his right hand a choice of master-crafted bolt rifle or master-crafted stalker pattern bolt rifle

But looking at the two bolt rifle options, there's the box mag one which i think means an auto bolt rifle, and one with a straight mag and a scope that's a teensy bit longer than the pushfit Primaris marines, which I guess means... I don't know actually. Is that actually what a stalker pattern bolt rifle looks like? Does anyone else think that is going to be utterly indistinguishable from across the table? As far as I can tell, whatever rifle you have depends on your mood that day. Mind you the codex lists options for the captain as an "master-crafted auto bolt rifle" or a "master-crafted stalker bolt rifle".

Am I missing something? Is this going to get me a lot of "It's GW. What do you expect?" replies?

I actually hope I'm the stupid one and I'm just missing something. If if not, that's depressingly bad even by their standards...

The bolt rifle is pretty modular. in that the diffrences is REALLY minute.

at best just say what they are in game if you really need to wysiwyg then the stalker has a scope and a small magazine. the auto has a box magazine. the normal has a banana mag(?). for that master crafted one its probably just the scope that really makes the weapon.

its the same way with the hellblasters. Assault has the weird scope and the heavy has the back pack.

From the Primaris Intercessors description - "Their bolt rifles can be 1 of 3 variants – the standard bolt rifle with sickle magazine, auto bolt rifle with overcharger and box magazine, or stalker bolt rifle with longer-range sight and straight magazine."

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The 'Easy To Build: Primaris Space Marine Intercessors' have sickle mags, so I assume they're the standard bolt rifle.

The Dark Imperium Intercessors are supposed to have regular Bolt Rifles. Some have scopes which is confusing.

Stalkers often have a straight magazine, but not always. It's basically just the tiny bit longer scope.

These guns look so similar that even GW is confused. However, the anniversary box is lying, that's standard bolt rifle. The Captain description is lying too, he doesn't (sadly) even have an option to take master-crafted bolt rifle, the choices are master-crafted stalker bolt rifle or auto bolt rifle.

But you actually concluded correctly:
Curved mag = Standard
Straight mag + bigger scope = Stalker
Box mag = Auto

Wow. Okay then. That is not a whole lot of difference between them for how different they are.

Thanks for the replies.

Gathering the Informations.

Pretty much. They're taking design cues from modern 'modular' rifles like the SCAR, where the difference between a marksman variant(Stalker) and the standard platform is just some minor fittings.

Personally, I'm doing what I did to make an Issodon last edition and trimming down and fitting the barrel from a Scout's sniper rifle(the Scout Sniper box has some extra unused ones that you can trim down for this) onto the ones I'm going to be using as Stalkers.

Just claim what GW used to say about different looking lasguns in different regiment. That those are the model X rifles that they make on the planet of my army. They just look different from other armies but statistically they are the same thing.
