I have been brainstorming ideas for a IK army for when the new codex is released, probably would contain two LOW detachments. Both would probably be outfitted with an imperial knight and at least two armigers. Then I would probably take a battalion of IG, three troops and three company commanders, what could go wrong? Anyway, I would like people’s opinions on which guard regiment is the best at camping out and holding the fort, because I mean, even if IK get some form of OBSec, is that what you would do with them? I am thinking Vostroyans, based on their doctrine and one order. More range, and close range fire.

If the truth can destroy it, then it deserves to be destroyed.

I'm biased but Krieg would do very well in that role for a few reasons:
1) Immune to morale loss from being shot. Your opponent shredded 7 men from the squad? No problem, 3 left to hold your objective.
2) They lose FRFSRF but gain Without Mercy. It's a bad deal for them in most cases, but not at long range: the order turns their lasguns into pistol 2, instead of rapid fire 2, so their biggest weakness compared to other regiments is nullified at long range.
3) for their commander options you can take a couple of death rider commanders, who are pretty respectable in CC, fast and can take a demolition charge, to threaten any big guys that come to wipe your campers.

IMO the best option would be a model heavy catachan battalion. Something like 2 company commanders, 2 ministorum priests and 6 units of infantry with no upgrades. It should come in under 400 points and gives you both volume of shooting fire that's relatively efficient and you're a tar pit that's impossible to charge through in a cost effective manner.

If you want to min max replace a company commander and a priest with Col. Straken. He's basically a combined priest/company commander with some extra equipment for free.
