Hi, the 'honour the chapter' stratagem allows a character to fight again as if it was the fight phase. Can this be done even if the character isn't in combat? (i.e. consolidate 3" to get into combat as part of the fight phase)

Fully Painted Armies: 2200pts Orks 1000pts Space Marines 1200pts Tau 2500pts Blood Angels 3500pts Imperial Guard/Renegades and 1700pts Daemons 450pts Imperial Knights

IMO " fight for a second time" is implicitly assuming you have fought for a first time.

Yes and no. The main thing is that the unit has to be eligible to be selected to fight in the first place. For example, say the character declared a charge, but the unit he was fighting got slain. In that case, you could still select the character to "fight again", because you could still select him to fight (he was a model that charged). On the other hand, if this is a character just sitting in the backfield, that didn't declare a charge, and isn't within 1 inch of enemy units, then that character cannot be selected to fight, so this stratagem wouldn't work on them.

So, effectively, the only time you'll be able to use this on a unit that isn't in combat is if the unit declared a charge that turn.

I see what you mean. Yeah the situation came up when I had a character that had killed its target and was left out of combat as a result. I had a similar situation with the stratagem that lets a character fight again when he dies. Mine was 2" from the enemy. I guess my question is: does 'fight as if it were the fight phase' include piling in?

Yes, fighting again includes pile in and consolidate imo.

This. You can’t fight again if you didn’t fight a first time due to being ineligible. If you’ve fought once already then fill your boots. Fighting includes Pile In and Consolidate moves.

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"
