Hey,

Has anyone used this model? It's not hard to see how powerful it is on paper, but is it worth its points and is it effective in practice? I love the model, I think it's way cooler than the Lord of Skulls. I'm considering ordering one for myself. I feel like it's almost worth buying just to have, but I'd be really disappointed if I bought it and used it and found out it wasn't worth using in my army and then kept it on the shelf.

So, any care to share their experiences with this thing?

Thanks

Where you game, would your friends allow you to proxy one for one game to see if you like it enough to buy one? That might be the best thing for you.

You might want to get this transferred to 40k general instead of the YMDC to get more answers.

Yeah for sure, I can definitely test it out.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Depends on local metas really;

In friendly metas it'll perform well and be a worth while points sink but in competitive metas it'll likely be blown off the table turn 1.

That's what you say about everything I care about!

Thanks, though. My friends aren't very good and one of them has a knight so I might pick this guy up sometime for the fun-factor. Maybe after my 2k list is fully assembled and mostly painted. Are there any titanic/FW units that are worth adding to a World Eaters army for competitive play? I really like the new rules for the Blood Slaughterer and the Decimator is cool, too.

I use both Decimator and a pair of blood slaughterers. They're pretty good imo. Use the slaughterers to slice down meq or teq models. Or send it after armour. Use a sorcerer to fling them across the battlefield for extra fun.

For LOW models I also like the Spartan, knights and the kytan. Everything else is too expensive for under 2k.

So I ordered the Kytan Ravager and a Blood Slaughterer w/ Impaler Harpoon!

I have a question about the Ravager, though. On battlescribe it says it's 514 points and that the Gatling Cannon is 184 points. I'm assuming that this means that the Ravager's cost does not include the cannon. I don't see a version of the model that does not include the gun and honestly, I think the gun will be useful. How many power points does the gun cost? My friends play with power points, not regular points. Most units can get upgraded weapons, etc for free with power points (free plasma pistols and power fists for my berserkers). Would this be true for the Kytan Ravager? Is the gun free for power points because it doesn't list any? Should I charge myself 9 power points for the 184pt gun since my Demon Prince and Blood Slaughterer are both 180 pts = 9 power points?

For the Blood Slaughterer, I'm right to assume that the impaler harpoon is much better than an additional melee weapon, right?

Watch some world eaters batreps on tabletop tactics, a Kytan very often features in them! The takeaway for me was that the Kytan is a beast that benefits hugely from the daemon-engine strat.

Power points do not care about what you take for weapons and already average in the cost of upgrades.

Of all the times I've used my slaughterers, I've never run into a situation that warranted the harpoon. Unless you're using them as vehicle hunters. I prefer using mine as infantry killers.

Thanks guys!

I edited my order to include a regular blood slaughterer. I'm a little disappointed because I was hoping he'd be a useful vehicle hunter, but at this point my entire army is able to slaughter either vehicles, monsters, or infantry, so whatever.

I was able to fit the Kytan into my 100pp list! It's weird, it's 99pp but also close to 2,500 points.

I hope the Kytan proves himself in my battles. It's an awesome model and I love the rules for it. It'd such a shame for it to underperform and then not see the field.

I hope it works for you too. I'm looking at getting one myself. I just have to justify getting another LOW to myself lol.

I think its a pretty good knight titan alternative. It wont be the end all best superheavy in the game, but it's a pretty dang fun model.

I use a Lord of Skulls regularly, and he’s basically the same thing as a Kytan. You’re best off running him in an Iron Warriors Detachment for the 6+ FNP stratagem. You’ll be daemonforging it anyway so Chaos Lord buffs aren’t that necessary. A Sorcerer providing Prescience and Warptime are nice to bring along, if you have the points then a Sorcerer, Warpsmith and maybe a Lord with him in a supreme command detachment will give you the buffs to make sure his expensive attacks hit where it counts and provide some survivability.

HERESY!

Does no one pay attention to avatar pictures?

My Kytan Demon Engine of Khorne will belong to the World Eaters and will not be touched by a sorcerer! lol. Thanks, though I'm sure that advice is solid, but if I hear someone recommend taking a sorcerer and using prescience one more time I'm going to go berserk!

I use a sorcerer on occasion with a Renegades detatchment. Death Hex is my favorite along with Warptime.

I used a sorcerer once in my Warriors of Khorne fantasy army. The first spell he attempted to cast got double 1s and he lost his wizard level. I've never used a sorcerer again and I'm not going to. I don't even know what these spells do! lol. My last battle (2v1) my partner used Warptime on my demon prince to get him out of his sorcerer's way because he was blocking LoS. So I learned Warptime. My DP moved 36" in a single turn. It was glorious.
