The simple explanation: I just completed 10 space marine scouts using bare arm and chest bits for my Space Leopards (white scars) chapter. All of my units have unit insignia's on their pauldrons to keep them separate on the table. I wish to add the same to these guys in the form of ritual scars. Now, claw wounds (knife wounds etc) heal with a raised bump (or at least that is how I wish to portray it). They seem too small for greenstuff to work well (although I will certainly try that) and I am hoping someone has some ideas on how to get, say, three parallel raised scar lines.
Also, anyone who has painted something similar and has some ideas on colors/layering whatever would be appreciated.

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

Probably work

You might have to settle for just painting them if you want them too small for GS. I've been doing the few minis I have with scars (mostly from the cadian command sprue) with lighter flesh colors for the raised part and then washed out with Ogryn Flesh. Gives it a bit of a scarred/inflamed look. There's probably a way to do it better though.

Liquid green stuff?

This might be very doable in greenstuff if you keep the scar pretty simple (like 3 lines for claws scar). You might need the right tool for it, a good sculpting tool and/or clay shaper will help here.

As for painting it, paint your flesh as normal, and add some red wash/glaze to the scars. Do very small layers of it, maybe diluted with Lahmian medium, as you don't want them bright red. Do small layers and add more until happy with the results

Fantasy armies - Retired (Tomb Kings, Vampires, Empire, Chaos Warriors/Daemons, Dark Elves)

Tyranids army - Ever evolving, but about 10k pts
Custodes - 3,500pts (Fully painted yay!)
Thousand Sons - 4,000 pts
Eldar - 3,000pts

Could you not paint multiple layers of paint until it's raised? Would only work for straight lines (scars from cuts, for example).

Add a bit of PVA glue to your paint to thicken it, then paint on the scars

Wow! A LOT of good ideas here! The thickened paint ideas sound easier, Liquid GS is an option although I haven't used it. I might try one of each and see what I get.
The paint as normal and then try wash of red or such is also the way to go I think.
Thanks guys!

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Don't some people use PVA glue and tissue paper for this kind of stuff? (Note: never tried it myself)

The funny part is that if you're willing to put some effort in?

You absolutely can do this with green stuff and it won't be too bad!
Take an exacto knife with the sharpest blade you can, and oh so carefully run it in three parallel lines--assuming these are meant to be claw marks--with the center line being the longest. Animals with 'slashing' claws rather than 'piercing' tend to bring the paw in towards their body as they slash, so the center claw tends to have the longest time 'on target' so to speak.

Make it just deep enough that you actually have a little bit of a groove in there. You actually want a small 'dip' in the flesh of the model. This is important.

Take a small bit of green stuff and then fill the groove back in. Leave just enough of the green stuff sticking out so that it will peek up over and then use the same exacto knife and kind of ensure that it 'puckers' a bit long the edges of the cuts.

I wish I had photos handy but I did this ages ago on a Ghoul King for someone and the end result was phenomenal.

I'm actually planning on doing it for some of my Idoneth beasties, so I had to dig out old notebooks and stuff that I wrote on back in the day.
