Subject: Necron Ressurection Protocols -versus- Slay The Warlord

Freaky Flayed One

Minor question arose in the last game.
My Necron Warlord was slain and returned to the field with Ressurection Protocols Strategem only to die a second time in a subsequent turn. Does my opponent score the Slay The Warlord point and when?
Possibilty Most Likely - Point is awarded only for the second kill.
However, a discussion arose as to RAW and whether or not the first point is awarded and then denied or if it could be awarded once for each Warlord kill.
Your thoughts and does Slay The Warlord need an errata rewording?

Slay the warlord is checked at the end of the game,, isn't it? So yes, and only once.

Yes. Most victory conditions (including 'Slay the Warlord') are checked at the end of the game.

However, the question then arises for the Kingslayer tactical objective, since those are checked at the end of each turn, if my opponent makes a random Warrior his warlord (as you can do, you're not limited to characters) and kill it, gaining Kingslayer, then the warlord returns. I would assume it's not retroactively revoked? This can happen with a "proper" warlord too due to the Resurrection Protocols Stratagem.

Nothing indicates it would be revoked, as the models downed are definitely casualties

Recently on Warhammer TV, Nids vs Necrons, they had this issue.
They way they said it worked was the point for Slay the Warlord was awarded for the first time the model died since the Warlord in question was "slain" and that it being "slain" was what triggered the Res Prots.
Also, the point is only rewarded once, the first time the model is Slain.
