Hello DakkaDakka,

Seven days ago Artis Opus launched our first Kickstarter and our company with our ‘Series S’ kolinsky sable brushes. You may have seen our advertisments elsewhere. We thought we’d take the opportunity to post here, introduce ourselves, and give anyone interested the chance to ask questions (although you’re more than welcome to ask on Kickstarter too!).

We’ve worked with some of the best artists in the industry:

Angel Giraldez
Andy Wardle
Gareth Nicholas
Neil Hollis
Richard Gray

We set out to make a superior product, using only the finest components and featuring small but significant alterations to make a brush which not only gives you the best tool for the job, but is a pleasure to use!

Our brushes feature a full-bodied belly, with slightly longer hair than standard. It sounds a little odd but they hold more paint than other brushes of their size as a result of this. This means less trips to the pallet, faster painting, less paint drying on the brush and better performance.

It’s not only our head that is full-bodied; our handle is also a couple of of MM wider than most brushes. This change is quick to adjust to, and although small has a two significant benefits; the first is increasing brush controll and grip, the second is alleviating ‘painter’s cramp’, stiffness, and being generally more comfortable. This should be particularly noticable for anyone painting longer than 30-40minutes.

Link to our Kickstarter here

If you have any questions please feel free to ask, we’ll endeavor to reply as soon as possible!

Byron, Artis Opus Co-founder

Amazing, thanks so much for your support!

We're approaching £100k goal - and have just added more add-on information (plus updating clarity within the campaign).

I'm quite new to painting, I was always told to get cheap-ish brushes as I'll go through them. What makes these ones better/worth their cost?

Honestly, if you're still pretty new to painting, then I wouldn't bother.

Pick up some mid-priced brushes and see if you feel like you get a better result from those on a character model.

Neat. I wish i had seen this sooner. They must be going fast. I was trying to pledge for August shipping but in the time it took me to load the pledge page they apparently sold out and now I have to wait until September! This should go nicely with my everlasting wet palette.

Hm. Without attempting to be a dick, why would/should I back this KS when I have a collection of W&N S7s and can purchase more, anytime?

They look like they'll likely be good brushes (although the G&G brushes serve as a warning), though the endorsements from the painters look very Paid Promotion to me.

I'm curious, not having tried the G&G brushes before, what is wrong with them?

I didn't back the G&G Brush Kickstarter, but I read a lot of complaints about them online once they shipped.

Yeah, I backed the g&g kickstarter. The bristles were good in that the strokes were smooth but they splayed out all the time. All the damn time.
They're better than nothing but frustrating due to wayward bristles.
I replaced with Windsor newton plus a full gw set from a friend leaving the hobby.

New kickstarter brushes look great. I like the box. I'd be tempted if I wasn't already stocked up.

I looked at this, looked the prices and same thought occurred to me so I just left it be but now you’ve mentioned it I can get a W&N series 7 size 1 (my go to size for mini painting) for £9.10 with free delivery but a size 1 here is £11. The W&N is also a known quantity, available straight away and as mentioned other paint brush KS haven’t delivered the quality promised. Credit is due for the price of the size 2 at £9 I can’t find better than that.

Yup. I think I'll just try wrapping a few lengths of duct tape around the handle of my Rosemary & Co brushes to see if this whole "thicker grip" thing has any merit and save myself the 50 quid.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

I was really looking forward to backing this, but after reading comments, I might as well stick to my size 1 W&N series 7

They're made with the finest grade components - the hair is pure (not a blend) - and is the undisputed king for miniature painters. It holds a beautiful point, and is far more durable than cheaper hair. With a small amount of care it'll last several times longer than any brushes you've had previously .

I'd completely disagree here, use the right tools for the job, they'll blow your mind - a good point and a large belly go a long way to making your hobby more enjoyable, and helping you improve.

We're over the moon regarding the response the campaign has had, thanks for your support . They should be perfect companions!

Our painters are working with us because they want the best tools to use for the job day in day out; they can't afford to be using anything but the best when racking up Golden Demons, slayer swords, or being painting rockstars like Angel! It simply wouldn't be worth their time to pick anything but the highest quality brushes when they paint every day at the level they do . Plenty of non-endorsed painters (Jen Haley, David Soper (Sproket) and reviewers have been sent the brushes also for honest review - please do check them out and see what they think.

We're using the highest quality components, and our quality checking should combine with this to bring products that hold to the highest standards and set us apart .

We'd encourage anyone to try them out, there's a reason the best miniature painters in the industry are working with us! I mentioned QC above, the consistency of quality with our products should make a big difference. Many painters (myself included) used to buy their brushes in multiples, test them all and then use the best, which simply isn't how things should be!

Hera have made us a beautiful Kickstarter Exclusive miniature which backers can now add to their pledges:

We've got a couple of big announcements in our upcoming final campaign days, do check the campaign out and have a look!
