I know they still sell that set of 5 but that is less than half the original sculpts that were once available in the Dark Vengeance set

And to add salt to that, the Cultist Champions and Special weapons models are part of those no longer sold.

So why? It just doesn't make sense

They're encouraging hobbyists by forcing everyone to convert other GW minis if they want to take 40-man autogun cultist blobs. Or maybe they're just wanting to help out third party mini sales. Gotta be one of those two here.

The champion and specials were literally never sold seperate, just like the Chosen models. You have to buy the DV box just to get the specials and champs.

On the plus side since we have no Champ model in the 5 piece, they finally gave the Champion the option for an Auto gun after I had converted all of mine to take pistol CCW from last edition.9 Autoguns and one pistol used to really bother me...

Converted Cadians of GSC would work fine.

Ive had these Catachan heads off a bitz site for years ready for a conversion with Cadian bodies that I never started.

But that's my point. The DV box is no longer for sale at all.
How hard would it be for GW to just release of box of 10 Cultists with 1 Champion and 1 Special weapon option?

The sculpts already exist, you just have to put them on a sprue. You could even keep the current sprue of 5 cultists as-is and make another sprue of 5 the has 1 Champion and 1 Special weapon.

Same could be said about plastic deffkoptas for orks. The were a part of a starters box, but oddly never resprued and sold seperatly.

It may just be me, but it's easy as heck to find DV around where I live, and even more so online.

Yes, that must be just in your area. In my area every game store has been picked clean since 8th dropped and only restocks sets that GW still sells (so DV is never available)
Online Cultists in general are always much, much more expensive (like $15 per box of 5) than just getting the set directly from GW.

Here's hoping that Chaos gets a 3 kit release later in the year! A box of cultists, a box of terminators, and a new box of CSMs would be fantastic. It would be in line with the 1KSons and Death Guard releases.

I was just going to say - it's a cool model and was reasonably popular - why did it never get its own release?

Perhaps we'll see them with the codex release? Either that or perhaps a new model, though I'd put money on the former.

Also the Warboss with Power Klaw model hasn't been released separately from that set either.

Even if you have the sculpts, re-tooling for plastics is very expensive. They have to be fairly sure they'll make a profit to redo a sprue.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Probably cause no one buys them from GW anymore: if you're making a 100+ cultist spam list then you'll buy a ton of them, second hand online for a discount and if you only want 30 to fill out a detachment then you'll obviously buy anything but the cultists box and convert them (seriously, chaos cultists look so awful).

So they'd have to have a mould cut which is big money that takes years to pay back.

Then they need to find a production slot for it when they're already struggling to keep up so either a new product gets bumped or something goes out of stock.

All so that you can get some old starter box models.

Pretty unlikely.

There's also the similar weird situation of Poxwalkers only being available as part of starters sets or a six-pack. There's no 10 or 20 man box of them, which would make a lot of sense.

They might be able to kill two birds with one stone here. You could probably do a cultist/poxwalker dual kit if you have the right weapon options.

Isn't there a "cultist assault" box set? That has 20x cultists and one exalted champion. Granted they are essentially 4x 5man boxes, I believe.

Well the mould for the starter box set still exists (presumably). IIRC (as I had it) the chaos forces are on separate sprues to the loyalist ones, but the poxwalkers are mixed in with chaos space marines (can't remember whether the Lord was on a separate sprue...) but anyway, I think people would be happy to pay for a rerun of that sprue (call it Death Guard mini-force or something...). I think it was the same for the previous set with the cultists and CSM. Again if I was feeling rich I would potentially buy that...

It was actually all the cultists (CCW & autogun) from DV, minus the the special weapons and the agitators/squad leaders*. So, yeah, all this talk about 'retooling for a sprue' is moot. GW did exactly that, but it's no longer on the site.

*because they came on a different sprue which also had some marines on it.

PS. the most annoying mini set I have seen is the plague marines, with 3 marines, one of which has a power fist. How many powerfist marines are you going to end up with spare (as its 1 per squad max for Death Guard I think)?

And I've just seen that it's been discontinued or is at least not on the GB website anymore. I was looking to buy one of those with a Dark Apostle too!

I have 2x Dark Vengeance Cultists squads (from ebay), so wanted the not special weapons from the Cultist Assault box to fill them out, as I don't own an Exalted Champion model it would've been alright value.

The "Cultist Assault" box is just 4 of the 5-man sets + an Aspiring champion. So 4 repeats of the same 5 sculpts.
-No Cultist Champions
-No Special weapons

Hunting down some "cult of the possessed" from Mordenheim I used some of them for variety (and added weapons). (Not made anymore)

Picking up a Tyranid cult pack adds some variety, you just need to put on different heads or modify them a bit but provides the gun(s) needed.

Hunting down necromunda gang "Cawdor" could be made to fit in (ironically enough), interesting to see these newly released.

If really digging back, I also have a full set of the "frateris militia (not made anymore):

the Orlock gang may do in a pinch:

Bloodreavers look like they could provide some interesting body / head swaps:

So that should be a few ideas.
At the very least, strip off some IG/AM Heavy stubbers off of some tanks / vehicles and kitbash them as man-portable heavy weapons.

A revolution is an idea which has found its bayonets.

If you don't mind going outside of GW minis, the Frostgrave cultists plus some guns look like they'd be pretty decent.

there was, seems to be discontinued a few days ago. was looking into it myself as it seemed like good value

seems like there are plenty of options for proxies here if you dont mind looking around a bit or doing a small bit of conversion work. personally i think the more varied cultists look, the better. i mean they arent an army so the more mismatched and cobbled together they look the better.
