I was playing with my boyz at our annual " green day " weekend battle for Chong cup, I was playing my Khorne soup list vs my imp loving pals cust/grey knights soup. We did what 40k should be about nice and lit and betting beers at the end of each turn. We both started to yell imp vs chaos trash at each other as we should , I said how Karn was gonna do horrible stuff to his mother then next his sheild captain. His response was just as good and we both drove our land raiders at each other for epic battle to please the blood god. Now we both forgot you can't assault out of land raiders like you used too ( I did say this was the Chong cup). The battle still was epic my 8 zerkers, aspire ch, and Karn vs his Cust Shield cap and his cust termi friends I lost by 1 at the end and we had fun. It was our best battle yet since 8th dropped and gave my zerkers their ballz back however we read the new rules after we sobered up and it got us thiking.
Would bringing back how transports used to let us embark and disembark and even the way older eds would use " Assault out of vehicles " bring some of the balance we all try to get? ( I know it can't be fully done) I think it's dumb I can't move my transport and then let my guys get out, the FAQ makes me think GW does some what listen and we might be able to get back rules like Assault vehicles. Just like how the FAQ brought back more or less no deep striking 1st turn I hope GW might bring rules like "assault vehicles" back . I never found " Assault vehicles " rules to be unbalanced in any other ed , what other types of reworked rule bring backs would we all like to see in a further FAQs? I mainly want this for next years Chong Cup so that I can yell how my World Eaters will slap up my Orc loving pal with Karn running out of his land raider as he should!

I kinda hope we see it as a Strategem for Ork trukks and Wagons at some point. Or even a Strategem for all armies. 2-3 CPs minimum.

Def no game wide. Back to bad old days of 3rd ed rhino rush would be bad move. Maybe for some vehicles with half/full move before disembark depending on vehicle would be possible but blanket rule wouid be bad(hell blanket rules are bad period as the deep strike change shows)

Tied and gagged in the back of your car

Open top transports should be able to allow the units inside to disembark into combat after completing a charge.

8th has lost a lot of flavor thats for sure!

Adding back in the old rules seems like the trend. Soon force org and characters joining units!

If I recall, you couldn't dismount after moving over 6" anyways, and couldn't move afterwards. The current dismount is 3", plus your move (of whatever, we have a move characteristic again), plus your charge. For some reason I'm hazy on it this morning, but my impression so far with vehicles has been pretty favorable for the dismounting infantry in this edition.

I must have something about that wrong. Maybe you couldn't dismount over 12". Man, those rules went fast from my brain...

The current rules are there explicitly to prevent Rhino Rushes. If you want the benefit of your METAL BAWKES you have to weather a turn of shooting first.

Yea same here - oddly enough it usually seems to be the reverse.

Regarding the OP:
I would love it if Landraiders let you dismount at the end of the move. I think that would be enough to nudge it back into popularity, but then you have to deal with the consequences of others wanting that handout and whether it creates a balance issue.

You mean like the old assualt vehical rules where you could charge out of assualt vehicals like landradiers, but not rhinos so a land radier actually had a role to play. Charging terminator assualt squads out of landradiers might never have been a very good tactic but damn did it feel cool.

assault is so easy to get to in 8th I don't really see a need for it, tbh.

Your 7th ed assault vehicle disembark rules were 6" move then disembark with your movement, then charge. I'm kicking myself for not remembering I played trukk boyz all through 7th, but I think I've got that right - 12" move then charge total. I also remember it being somehow worse for regular non open top vehicles but I don't remember how.

8th ed rules are disembark within 3", which means the distance is 3"+the diameter of your base, usually on 25mms thats roughly 4", then that plus your full move. Even with the slowest models (orks)that adds up to 9", except now with the bonus that the vehicle doesn't have to solely act as an assault caddy. If you're a land raider and you paid a jillion points for 4 lascannons, you don't have to move up to disembark your enemy and get -1 to hit. If you're a trukk, and you don't like assault units dying to overwatch like chumps, you can swing around the infantry unit and charge the trukk in yourself.

It's a far more flexible system overall.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

3rd ed rhino rush was bad, but better than 1st turn alpha strike. You at least had to move the rhinos into position and then brainlessly assault in turn 2 (also people were whining back then about gunlines being OP because they couldn't charge turn 1 ... except blood angels with their over charged engines who COULD charge turn 1)
