I feel Deathwatch will have a bit of an advantage (or disadvantage) from the spoilers, but hey, what does DakkaDakka’s users think will be the most fun/competitive of the new codex releases?

To clarify, the Codexes in this next three codex release.

If the truth can destroy it, then it deserves to be destroyed.

Deathwatch is looking functional so far compared to the Vanilla Marines codex so that has my vote.

The list is missing Orks.

Deathwatch is nice, but I think a lot of people are waiting to see what happens with Orks.

I'm mostly hoping people dust them off. I've never played against them in 8th. There are a few people that have them, but they're putting all their energy into other armies for the moment and refuse to run them.

Out of the 3 listed, I'm torn between Deathwatch and Harlequins. I think Deathwatch will be the more viable but I'm really curious as to what they are going to do with Harlequins.

However, I am really curious as to see where they go with Orks...they are really in dire need of a new life in 40K, I hope they get it. I also feel that Space Wolves are going to be the strongest of the SM chapters (nice coming out last I guess) and will probably have Russ in it. C'est la vie.

I will say this about them. Orks are great when played as a horde army. A few Stratagems / psychic powers that improve on shooting and saving throws will make them competitive.

Like, if there was a way to make Lootas hit on a 2+ for a single turn, that would be devastating to a lot of armies. Or if there was a way to give Bikers a decent save, even if it was just for one turn.

On the big scale of horde armies, Index Orks give me more problems than Codex Tyranids.

Harlequins are gonna be interesting as they're gonna have a few Chapter Tactic equivalents apparently.

I voted for Knights, because it looks like it'll be the easiest way for me to play Battletech.

The codex I'm most waiting for however wasn't an option.

I give it a 50/50. One the one hand, GW can't resist milking the playerbase for a bunch of recycled Fluff and index copy-paste rules, but on the other it's GW who might just say "Plastic Sisters, use the Index. Oh, they sold poorly? Never ask us for anything again here are Pink Marines."

If you don't think GW are setting up Plastic Sisters on a glass cliff to fail I got a bridge in auld London taawn to sell ya.

Shortest codex life in 7th, longest wait for a codex in 8th...

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

None of them, IMHO all three armies shouldn't even exist. Deathwatch and harlequins should be part of the already existing SM and drukhari codexes and imperial knights.... well they should just be a LoW choice in some imperium codex.

For me, its Harlies as Aeldari is my favorite.
My aim is to field a Harlie battalion in a combined army with Drukhari and CW.

Harlies for me. Kind of scared they won't get anything new when they oh so desperately need it.

I guess that Harlies will still be too one-dimensional with the new codex when played as a stand-alone army.
To get more variety (such as shooty support in a shooty environment), units from Drukhari or CW will be neccessary for a decent list.

Far more excited about GSC when it eventually lands though.

Imperial Kniights, sadly however the chnaes of them getting the unit they have in the stories - infantry, techs, support and armour are unlikely if GW can't be bothered to do the same for Ad Mech

It was arguably the best codex of the 7TH...so much fun.

Can't wait for GSC and Orks though, the two most interesting armies out there without a Codex
