Greetings and happy Monday, fellow Dakkanaughts. I come to ask your advice. There's an idea floating around in my brain and it's been there for a while. I really haven't had a good place to start with it, as I've never really done anything like it before. I want to craft a guitar somehow and give it to a warboss model that I have yet to piece together and paint. This will be an AoBR Warboss, and I will be heavily modifying him to properly hold the instrument. Hacking away on him and getting him patched with greenstuff to have the right pose isn't going to be the hard part. Actually making the guitar (and making it look convincing) however, very well may be. So I ask you crafty gits, how would you make it?

My goal is to have it shaped like a battleaxe and the neck will be a shoota. I plan on having the bits at the end that make it look like it's expending shells at a rapid rate. If I can pull it off, it'll look awesome. I just need some advice to get me started.

Ahhh you’re making me miss these guys, wish I’d never sold them:

Yeah, GW stopped selling those, didn't they? I regret not buying them.

I suppose you could kit bash it if you can find decent parts, but I'd just straight carve it out of expoxy putty or sculpey. Just draw an outline of what you're looking for to scale on thin scrap paper/tracing paper, slap it over some properly thinned out medium (epoxy or sculpey) and cut out the shape. Bevel/round it to your liking, maybe add some carved in details, slap on some interesting bitz and boom -- axe shoota guitar for your warboss.

This is more of a conventional "guitar" but a good reference to get you on the right track with carving out the medium:

What warboss model will you be using?
There are tonnes of axes to use as a starting point, just sand down one side, bulk up it up with plasticard and build a neck.from plastic rod or of he's huge a vehicle axle, sentinel leg or something and use a shoot a or two for the headstock.

I like the guitars that Spellcrow sells, but I doubt they're big enough for a warboss.... (Might work for some Grots, though...)

That video was helpful, but I didn't think about actually sculpting it out of green stuff. I might be able to pull that off, but I might use plasticard and bits more than anything. I expect I'll have to sculpt some things on this though.

Good ideas all. If anyone else has any ideas, keep them coming!

Gotta say that a big choppa turned sideways would make a great guitar body ala Gene Simmons/KISS. Use some sprue or straight bit for a neck, a skull or some bit for a head stock, run a few fine wires for strings.

Shoota gun holding arms work will for making orks hold things and is kind of in a guitar pose already.

Saw this thread and had to post since it reminded me I went through a similar dilemma on how to model an Ork with a guitar, so I made my own

To do mine I sketched out the rough shape I wanted on paper, once happy I cut it out and transferred it to some plasticard. Trimmed that down. Added a few extra details, neck, strings, strap and it turned out ok (I'm sure more talented modelers could do it better)

End Result is Tony Orkommi from Black Squigoth
