So I figured all the boards would be on fire with talk about the Rogue Trader skirmish game, but to my surprise, no one has even mentioned it. So let me go first:

I've been playing 40k since Rogue Trader days, and this is a really cool idea for narrative style players. Rogue Trader paves the way for more non-com objective style minis (the three Imperial advisor models and Asdrubael Vect's old slaves are pretty much it right now). I always wanted more of this for story purposes- the excavator scenery was kinda cool for this, but there are no "worker" models to go with it (though servitors and plastic IG without weapons can go a long way).

This may also be a way for games designers to get those super small armies some more table time. I think it would be cool if they found a way to reboot space travel/ warfare; I miss Battlefleet Gothic. Rogue Trader opens that door too.

Anyone else as crazy about this development as I am?

It's cool and all, but between it, Necromunda, and Killteam, it feels like we're just inundated with a bunch of skirmish games that probably could be happily developed under a single interchangeable, universal system. I want to love everything there is to love about Rogue Trader, but I also have to be realistic about the time and money I can invest into my hobby, as well as what members of my community would be willing to invest in yet another separate game. I mean, I'm still waiting for GW to get off their collective asses and put all the Necromunda stuff under one book so that my community can start that.

Most of the talk is over on the rumors page thread. I'd link but I'm on my phone.

Not really enough information to be interested in it. I'm far more invested in what Kill Team has to offer.

Wait...isn't this just the boxed set that leads to Kill Team?

That was my original thought as well, but I don't think so. It lacks the "Kill Team" moniker and was shown with different terrain than we saw in the Kill Team trailer. I think it more likely that Rogue Trader is a separate boxed game, more like Deathwatch Overkill.

I got burned pretty bad by how fast they dropped SWA support so I’m kinda sticking my head in the sand.

Now the titan game or a new Battlefield Gothic...

I think it's meh. the Chaos side just looks like more Nurgle and the Rogue Trader side is... a mish mash. There's some neat models in there (good boy doggo), but what use are they going to be in 40k? Are they even going to have rules in 40k or is Rogue Trader going to be a standalone thing? Are they going to support it with other factions? Why would they support that game while also bringing out Kill Team?

Too many questions thus far unanswered, and we're unlikely to get any answers since it's scheduled to come out at the end of the year.

Then we've also got Titanicus, Battlefleet Gothic, Necromunda, Blood Bowl, Shadespire... They're bringing back specialist games heavily, but in my opinion a little /too/ heavily. Slow down a little, give the individual games space to breathe and update things people have been asking for, like Eldar Aspect Warriors and Chaos Space Marines and Khorne Berzerkers, etc in the mean time.

your mind

I think that GW is in full-on new boxset limited release generate the content and fill it with plastic mode.

I like these models, and would encourage their collection for sure.

This box serves as a good expansion on the previous starter.

The rogue trader side could be used as chaos converts and traitors, of course, or the box split with a friend.

Anyways, I like it but frankly,
it is a bit overshadowed by the plastic sisters stuff... No?

That's the thing. My 2018 projects are all filled, and that's before I try to find a place to fit in Newcromunda. 2019 is the year of the nun for me.

With all the skirmish stuff that GW looks to be trying to get into, I think they'd be in a better position to develop a standardized, interchangeable skirmish system (the core Newcromunda rules are great to begin with), and then branch the systems out from there. Pick-up games could work between each system, although each could be developed around more specialized campaign systems that keep them separate and distinct.

If there's not some interbreeding between the lot of them, I see them cannibalizing one another pretty quickly.

I agree with most of this.

Given the value of time at this stage in my life I'm happy to see any game which involves fewer miniatures but what really gives me wet dreams is the idea of a scaled up version of the SW:A rules for combat patrol size games - basically a minimalist, stripped down version of 2nd ed.

I for sure like the imperial models , the nurgle beasts are a bit meh. I on the other hand don't play table top much as no one to play with , but do play the boxed games with my brother and wife as they don't mind playing smaller contained "board games".
So it does excite me as it increases my collection.

For mother Soviet scotland oh and I like orcs

Well what I would like to know is what those imperial figs were originally ment to be used for, because they were painted a year ago as one of the pistols was shown in the rumor machine around February 2017? Plus they are not based for a spaceship interior.
