Okay, everyone.

I am stumped on the Guard codex. I want to know which option for heavy weapons teams is the best anti infantry solution. Auto cannons, Bolters, or mortars. I already am thinking about punisher Cannons for my list, but am still wondering which is best. For a disclaimer- I am thinking of sticking my heavy weapons teams in infantry squads (because they are squishy) so I may not have as many. I just know there should be a 60/40 ratio of anti tank to anti infantry. From my understanding, bolters hit more, auto cannons hit harder, and I have no idea what mortars do besides Line of Sight. I only ask that you be thorough in your replies! Thank you!!!!!!

We ask the same of you. You’ve made 14 out of 20 posts asking for army advice. Gather your thoughts and put them all in one post.
Imperial Guard are the easy button of 40k right now. There are more than enough answers to your questions in the tactics section.
Read a few battle reports and read lists people are using. I’m not trying to be rude but some of your questions are answered by pretty common sense choices.

Yeah, maybe instead of spamming the General forum, check out the specific tactic thread for Guard over in the Tactics section:

Sorry about that. But honestly, sometimes I really need thorough answers. I'll remember this in the future and won't spam. But I honestly don't get answers,I get stuff like this. I'm sorry that I'm excited to get into 40k, I'd just figured I'd get help and ask questions like I was told. You could at least answer the question and say "btw, please don't spam." I won't try to ask so much, but I just got no help. I just got told not to ask so many questions. I already know I've written a lot. I'll do my part, but please do yours and contribute.

Excitement is good, but every topic you make pretty much asks the same question: "What is the best X?"

This game isn't hard, you already found the go-to army and it's best units. Why not start playing and see how it goes? Maybe you'll lack specific options or get beat by a specific list, in which case you'd have an actual problem to solve.

The codex contains all stats on weapons and attacks, you should be able to figure it out. If you don't you shouldn't be looking into what is the best to begin with and start by just playing a couple of games to learn the basics. If you don't understand why things are strong you're not gonna use them correctly anyway.

Then there's also the idea that this game isn't meant to be competitive and playing the best list might not be a good idea depending on your local players, but that is another discussion entirely.

Other then that, there are detailed guides and dedicated forums all around the net so give google a shot as well.

Good luck figuring out what you are looking for and stay excited!

I'll bite. There isn't a "best" hwt for anti-infantry currently, because lasgunners with a frfsrf order outputs so efficiently.

However, models in a unit don't need to shoot at the same target. So a Lascannon, that is a great tank/monster hunter, would always be my go-to choice.

Our artillery, like Wyverns, Manticores, and Bassies are where I'd look for dedicated anti-infantry due to high rof and no need for Los. Or, like I said before, more dudes with frfsrf. More bodies helps Guard to create board control, claim objectives, and produces anti infantry firepower.

Arty is more flexible in that it can more successfully engage hard targets as well as fixing positioning issues by not needing Los.

@OP

Not a big deal, but as others said. Try to wrap all your thoughts in a single topic so it's easier for everyone to follow. You might just put "Questions about Imperial Guard choices" or something and ask everything.

Also, it's handy to keep in mind when asking about that you have Guard Equivalents (GEQ), Marine Equivalents (MEQ), and Terminator Equivalents (TEQ). You might have seen these terms floating around. They basically reflect the general statline of the infantry you're aiming at. For example, plasma weapons are a bit wasted killing a single Guardsmen by pointcost, but they're very efficient for taking out Terminators due to the strength/ AP.

I'm not going to give any suggestions as other people here are far more familiar with the army and suggestions have already been given. I hope this helps a bit.

On moon miranda.

Im partial to the heavy bolter personally. Its a little better against heavy infantry than 6 lasgun shota, though not quite as good against light infantry, but does reach out with decent range, and the -1AP gives it a bit extea utility. The mortar is much the same, basically trading volume of fire for S and range. The Lascannon is also a good option as noted. My old favorite, the Autocannon, is distinctly sub par in 8E I think.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.
