Okay, questions for all you Black Legion players.

How do you field Abaddon?

I feel stuck between wanting to use him between three ways.

If I move him up with cultists it increases the sturdiness of that wall by a ton, but it seems like he'd rarely make his points back in combat. However, if I teleport him in with a squad of Termies he's not giving his aura the whole time he teleports. Third seems the least likely I'd do due to having to buy one and the sheer point cost, but it would be moving him up with a land raider tucked in with either Bezerkers or Termies.

I just feel like I'll either be keeping him too far back or over exposing him and moving him outside of good aura range. Thanks in advance.

He works best as the core in a gun line type of black legion list. A gun line is supposed outshoot the average list. His reroll to hit and immunity to morale are very key buffs to a black legion gun line list. And since gun line lists fear being charged by melee, thats where Abaddon helps too. Either nothing melee touches your gun line, in which case you should outshoot the other list and win, or something melee does get to you, in which case then Abaddon gets to make his points back and more by killing that stuff that got into melee with you.

I have had my Abaddon kill Celestine before. He is not to be trifled with in close combat. The list of stuff that can stand a charge from him and then walk away victorious is not very high.

Eldenfirefly is exactly right. He is best used as the center of a gunline. You don't want to seek out combat with him as he is often the lynchpin of your army. That said he is an absolute weapon in combat. I've had him kill Celestine, have her pop up, and kill her again.

The old way to use him was as an anchor to support several large cultist units, giving them much needed morale immunity. Abaddon can still do that, but there’s a little less incentive to use multiple large cultist squads since the FAQ limited Tide of Traitors.
