Has anyone actually done a chrome affect on plastic minis to any success?
Not like, painting the illusion of it, of which I found tutorials. But the actually shiny metallic chrome?
I wanted to do color of chrome on meganobz.. or maybe biker boyz. But this seems impossible. All methods of it involve something that would destroy a model or plaster chrome on the whole model.
EDIT; If you'd like some stock images to get an idea of what I want to do, google 'Spectra Chrome' This is the awesome kind of finish I might like to do on some ork bitz.

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works. |

I've heard of people using these:
http://amzn.eu/7X4i4fo
by opening them up and painting the contents on.
However I'm unconvinced that a "pure chrome" effect will look convincing, the entire challenge of our hobby is to create the illusion of scale and it will mostly look small and shiny.

Alclad2 looks pretty perfect, but you do have to airbrush it on. What I do is chrome the whole model, then paint on white primer where I don't want chrome. It does, though, like Rik Lightstar said, kind of just make things look small and shiny.
Here's a necron I painted with it.

Not sure if they still do it but Humbrol used to have a "metalcote" range of enamels you could paint on (ideally airbrush but could brush if careful for small areas), let it cure then buff it to a near mirror finish shine
otherwise perhaps a chrome coloured silver spray over black base then a clear lacquer with a high gloss over?

@ Salabasama: That looks VERY cool mate!
@ Desubot: So do yours ... but are they also airbrushed, or brush-painted?
