Just stated a new Tua army and trying to find a theme to base them with. As I was cleaning out things in the offices I came upon one of those little round puzzle ball games my kids got at a carnival. I was about to toss it when I realized just how cool it might look to make a base with that pattern. My first attempt I didn't trim off any of the sides, and didn't wait long enough for the wood putty to set so i ended up with a real mess. This morning i took it to the bandsaw and cut away the edges and attached it to spare piece of clear acrylic dowel. Let the wood putty set for about 6 to 7 minutes. then sprayed some olive oil on the stamp and pressed it in. I left it for another 4 or 5 minutes and that wasn't enough. It was still to lose. So I pushed it in and left it for 10 minutes. And the end result looks promising. It should be cured by tonight and I'll see how it takes a bit of paint. thinking I might find some resin to fill the gaps before I put my first model on it. And may see if I can find a couple smaller ones so I can make some varying sizes. So here I am and figured I would share the adventure.

Maybe not so deep the next time (those look ridiculously deep for what I assume are floor tiles), but it certainly does look promising!

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

Clever idea. Agreed on not so deep on next attempt. Give it another go!

So i tried to just do it lightly and it settled into the putty and gave the one in the back. The one on the left is the first one from above all dried. The front left is after sanding the stamp. I think on the next run I will fill the putty directly into the stamp so I can push all those bubbles out. For now I will wait for this to dry. Then I will add some glue to seal, before I try some paint to see what it will look like.

And this is the guy I will base on this when done.

I think this turned out really well on a 65 mm base. Now to find some smaller maze puzzles so I can make the smaller bases More to come as I experiment!
