I have a couple dark Imperium sets and want to convert the hellblasters to the assault version of heir guns. I'm finding all sorts of bits for the heavy versions, those are obvious, but I can't actually tell what's different looking about the assault variant or how to best convert mine.

I'll say, personally...I don't care as they all look pretty much the same. Just tell me before game. If you're really WYSIWYG (and I am...but not between "types" of a singular rifle), then I can't help ya. I don't think you'll have people argue this much unless you're maybe in a tournament - and even then I doubt it.

A plasma gun...is a plasma gun for all intents and purposes.

Converting them to look a little different isn't that hard, as I've been looking at it myself. My plan of attack was to use some mods from Anvil Industries to get a reflex sight or something on the top rail, and one of their laser sights under the muzzle so it looks similar to the assault plasma.

Is that what's different, see I can't even find a good image showing what the difference is.

From what I can tell the only difference between Regular and Assault is the scope, the Dark Imperium gun doesn't have the laser sight on the tip either. The Heavy has a capacitor tip, plus the whole back pack set up.

Also the DI guys and the regular box the 'magazine' is rotated 90 degrees.

Only difference from assault and regular is the extra sight on the top of the gun, otherwise they are the same configuration. The only one that is different is the Heavy version with the cable and pack addition.
