I mean the renegade kit looks good. But as a Chaos player I don't see it as a good purchase aside from the modeling side. What is gw's strat here? Not interested in the box game at all. All the hype about knight got me interested in using one...but lack of uses for a Chaos army version kind of killed it.

I am leaning on a pass. Seems they kind of killed non imperial incentive.

Right now they're nothing more than something fun and different to field, or a cool hobby project. I almost split a box with a buddy before my logic settled in.

It's likely they'll get some vague adjustments in Chapter Approved 2018, but as of now they'll be woefully underwhelming by comparisont to normal Knights (no relics, no warlord traits, no characters, no support Knight elements, no stratagems, no household rules, no points reductions).

They're still cool to see stomping about, but if you're asking for a competitive-minded reason to run one? Not so much. They do have a minor benefit in that they can run twin-matching guns, something the normal Knights cannot.

Do understand though that the boxed set is still a stupidly good deal - if you're considering ever buying one in the future...buy one now and set it aside.

$140+$157+$40(?) = $337 MSRP for $195 (and yes it's available $165 shipped on eBay at the moment).

You're paying around $80 per knight with free terrain thrown in.

Similar situation as Renegades and Heretics. Just paint and/or model them as if they were chaos, but play them with loyalist rules.

Not a great solution because you can’t ally with CSM or daemons, but you can play a chaos or renegade household force backed up by imperial guard (of chaos). That’s my plan, anyhow.

Same boat kind of. I play R&H alongside my DG. It's fluffy and fun but the R&H side is totally underwhelming compared to IG. I don't play competitive really but fun factor and abilities go hand in hand.

I feel the same way about the knight now.

I agree it's a bargain...but so is buying 1k rolls of toilet paper. You will be saving a some money and you will use it...does not make it a fun purchase.

With you guys bringing up R&H it reminds me that I'm still really curious what the future of Forgeworld armies/units will be for 8th edtion. While we have some points adjustments via Chapter Approved, the "Index only" stuck armies in the Forgeworld books are going to be increasingly worse. Has Forgeworld addressed this, or is it not a consideration and they'll be relegated to 'if you really want to" status? Forgeworld has never really produced proper codices, so I don't see them starting. Will we see the armies/ideas regurgitated in a new proper Imperial Armour book some time in the future?

There are so many cool and interesting Forgeworld units, but the above mentioned lack of stratagems, traits, relics, warlords, etc. will continue to be a massive hindrance.

you might be getting some cool new rules for your chaos knight in the future, maybe. You just have to use the s*** index rules for up to half a year going forward. Have fun facing imperial knights with the full power of the new codex behind them, during this time, k.

The incentive is "do you want one"? If the answer is no then don't worry. If you do, then go for it. They are not very competitive but who cares when you have a cool model in your army?

Proxy it as a Lord of Skulls or Kytan until it gets an update.

Always 1 on the crazed roll.

I get what you are saying, but the competitiveness of a model means a lot to a huge portion of the community. If something is just plain bad people won't want to buy it because it will only disappoint them on the tabletop. Rules sell models and when you completely shaft chaos by not giving them at least something to work with you hurt your sales. I find it very odd they decided to not give chaos knights anything at all.

We may be lucky and get a Renegade Knights codex. I certainly hope so as mine sees very little use these days.

I think chaos got the knight as a reaction to the overwhelming demand for them there was in 7th.We never got a codex, but between daemon knights, renegade knights, and their customization, no one was complaining that much.

Now knights are less than what they used to be, but are still appealing for the non competitive hobby type. Knights are really fun conversion projects.
