Oh crap! I mean, yay...? My wife likes the Idoneth Deepkin models.

Specifically that nightmare fueled half octopus, half bard/cosplayer/drunk uncle?, Lotann. She also thinks the shipwreck is cool. And the turtle (Leviadon). I don't play AoS, and neither does she -- wargaming doesn't interest her at all. She only likes the model. The model! And she wants me to paint it for her! Like some kind of filthy casual hobbyist.

But you know... Sometimes in a marriage sacrifices must be made. Compromise, that's the key. Okay, honey, if you insist. I'll buy more plastic. And paints. Why yes I could use some new brushes too.

So yeah, I now have in my hands a shiny new sprue of gray plastic. Opened up the box and, gosh that's a lot if tiny fiddly pieces and mold lines to remove! Oh the pain, the pain of it all! Pray to Gork and Mork for me, brothers and sisters.

If I make any sort of measurable progress I'll post some photos. Either here, or in my P&M blog.

<EDIT: this post is tongue-in-cheek. If you lack a sense of humor, please file a bug report.>

Look at it this way. At least she's not nagging you to stop playing with toy soldiers.

Listen. I'm going to clue you in on something.

When your significant other says they like something from Warhammer or Warhammer 40k, YOU IMMEDIATELY BUY IT FOR THEM.

Trust me.

well, not all minis MUST be used as gaming pieces.
both my flames or war armys have neever seen a gaming table, they just sit nicely next to my 1/16 rc tank.

since it is a decorative pice, my gut says your wife will be a bit stingy when it comes to the paintjob, cuz she prolly imagine that you can replicate the box design.

Oh, I bought it. My OP was intended to be a little tongue-in-cheek, but perhaps that was lost in the tubes.

Anyway, here we go:

That's a lot of wasted packaging. I thought that GW stores were short of shelf-space.

I bought the Hobbit box, as the Wife likes the Dwarf models (Aidan Turner's Kili, mostly) for the same reasons, and most of it has been sat in the box ever since.

Have you got somewhere to display them?

Idoneth Deepkin bought for the wife? I think you mean my new turtle-themed Drukhari ravager.

...Which I also bought because my wife wanted to have it.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

So much this.

Still have a metal Morathi On Dark Pegasus somewhere that my wife liked the look of... Don't think we ever got beyond priming it, but it was worth a shot.

I've painted a bunch of models for my wife. If we'reout shopping and I drag her into the FLGS she quite often sees something she likes. Sometimes she buys them herself and hands them to me announcing that I have to paint them for her. When I use my Sylvaneth army I have to ask her permission to take the treelord as technically it belongs to her.

Fortunately, I AM some kind of filthy casual hobbyist, so I love it. I make an extra effort on her models, in fact. A couple of years ago I bought her two Lord of the Rings Great Eagles for her birthday and stayed up most of the night painting them for her as a surprise present.

What's weird is that now her mother wants me to paint up a Saint Celestine for her! I'm not sure she's even read up on her rules.

One of my exes plays Infinity because she liked one random model in a box. We're still friends, and she has every model in like, 3 of the factions. She plays casually, but being interested in a model is the first step.

You do realise that the next level up is to buy some more fishies (eg the eel riders) to sacrifice to the god of "learning to paint" and teach your SO how to paint her own beasties!
