Latest article on community is a great looking freebooters clan, with an imperial knight & inspired by space wolves.

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/06/08/8th-june-alex-youngs-freebooter-orksgw-homepage-post-4/

- calls out freebooters history & provenance in 40k
- talks a lot about looted knight & the different kits used in kitbash
- talks about squigs
- talks about space wolves

The first 3 get me really excited (proper clan rules, official rule me mechanism for looted vehicles as long as they use official kits & squigs!!!).
Or am I seeing what I really hope to see & this is a coincidence?

At the very least, might be a (not that subtle) hint for a wolves-Orks box set.

Thoughts?

You're looking too much into this. Although it is always nice to see Alex and his work. It's rare we have an older player in the community who just gets orks! The fact I don't see a single pirate hat shows he's an old player.

I mean look - there's definitely going to be an Ork codex very soon, and it will definitely contain the various clans and their different bonuses... some will have vehicle bonuses, Snakebites will be sneaky, Bad Moons will be shooty... so maybe this is just a light way of starting the discussion.

I've been hearing rumors of an orks vs wolves box myself but don't really belive it. that said re-releasing the Stormclaw box might be an easy eneugh thing to do that'd be popular with a dual codex release. we saw them re-release renegade with knights, so gonna make a prediction, with wolves and Okrs will come a re-release of the Stormclaw box.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I think there have been pirate ork models as far back as Second Edition, haven't there?

Freebootas getting the equivalent of a clan rule would be cool (I know they are not a clan).

More squigs would definitely be cool.

I'm excited to see what the clan rules will be. I was worried when many of the early codexes seemed copy/paste, as poorly thought out clan rules could lead to play styles not very fitting if the clan, even though at face value they looked like a match. For instance:
Blood Axes counting as being in cover if they don't move would lead to people dropping Kommandoz and Stormboyz.
Evil Sunz getting a bonus to advance rolls might lead to a lot of Evil Sunz foot sloggers and dread mobz.
Snakebites getting a 6+ FNP on all models would lead to a lot of mechanized Snakebite armies.

GW has been doing pretty good on the chapter tactics equivalents in the last several books, so I'm optimistic they'll do a good job with the ork clans.
