What is a good strategy for using these guys? Are they bubble wrap, board control, offensive, defensive?

The fact that they can charge this edition is really great, but they have to survive combat to work. Not easy.

Thoughts?

I have no intention to spam these guys. I own 4 of them and that is probably my limit. I might pick up a few on ebay if I need them to be effective.

I have the sporocyst as well.

With the deepstrike changes, I like to set them up at my board edge and just use them as bubble wrap and character protection. Having 3 wounds and T3 means they actually can charge, unlike regular spores which will die to harsh language, so there’s a larger threat range. Their most important ability is just being a super cheap way to fill your fast attack slots for a brigade though.

They fill out a brigade like Badablack said. Otherwise you use them for board control, deep strike denial and to discourage charges.

I've actually been using mine mostly with my Sporocyst, as they are no longer once per game spawn options and can be created by the ranged attack as well. The added durability relative to a Spore Mine Cluster makes them a nice thing to spit out early and then switch to mines later for area denial (if the Sporocyst is left alone anyway - people tend to not like things that pump out mortal wound bombs in their backfield).
