Simple question, does the Rapid-fire Battle Cannon and the Thermal Cannon share the same gun on the model, you just choose which it is at the beginning, or is there actually a discernible difference between the two, because I have not found one.

Not entirely sure what you're asking, but both of them are different guns.

Yes, they use the same base sprue where you glue the parts of the weapon on that you want to use.
However, it is not that hard to magnetize the different gun variations. So I would recommend doing that.

Nope that is my bad, I saw the Crusader and the Paladin and thought the Crusader's right arm gun was a Thermal Cannon when it was the Rapid-fire Battle Cannon all along, that is my mistake.

Bare in mind the base is the same, but the plate on the base of the gun barrel for both ARE DIFFERENT. If you plan to magnetize, you gotta magnetize that part

technically you dont even need to magnetize, it can pop on and off, but magnets will do a better job. Plus you can magnetize the ammo hopper on the side
