If you opt to take a squad of assualt marines without jump packs are they still Jump Infantry?

This comes in to play in CoD because the Key Building Strategems are based on infantry units.

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.

Read page 55 of the rulebook. Answer is a tentative no, as it makes it fairly clear that these guys rely on their jump packs/jet packs to be jump infantry and without them they are not jump infantry.

""Some special troops use devices that allow them to move at great speeds ..."
"Space Marines use jump pack ..."

Jet packs
"Some Jump Infantry are requipped with a special type of jump pack, referred to as a jet pack."
"Jet packs differ from jump packs in the following ways:"

It's tough to say RAW for sure without a definition of Infantry, but there isn't a bold-faced one that I see.

Even the 'existing unit types' thing agrees with this on p 264,
"All Space Marines with Jump Packs" are Jump Infantry. So no jump packs, no jump infantry.

The actual answer is in the Space Marine Codex, not the rulebook. Assault Marines are not themselves classed as Jump Infantry, that comes from the description for the Jump Pack, which states that Marines with Jump Packs move as Jump Infantry.

So it's the Jum pPack that makes them Jump Infantry... so without it they are just regular Infantry.

As well as that, I should think the WYSIWYG rule would compel you to model them with Jump Packs to let them jump (so to speak...)

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I'm new to these forums so please forgive me but is this a serious question?  I would have thought the clue was in the question.

Cabbage, take a read about what YMTC is; this will help you understand this particular forum. It's about RAW (read as written). Some questions can seem nonsensical, or, dare I say it Ed, common sense, but this forum looks at things a bit different than other forums.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

What Sarigar said.

Also, I talked about YMDC here.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1
