I ran across this a while ago and have to share it. Total fan art, but everything in it screams "awesome". The cyber lion is a little over-the-top, but the Custodes Centurion thing is just pure win.

Oh, I totally agree. The Custodes Centurion thing is my favorite, but they are all good. I'd field them even if they were over-pointed just for the cool factor. On the left it looks like a Custodes Librarian. For those that know the lore better than me, is there anything necessarily preventing a psychic Custodian Guard?

Thinking about that Lion though: I'd hate to be the one to receive a charge from the equivalent of a Custodes Thunderwolf Captain. Let's just forget the 2+, 3++ saves and the likely toughness 6. All those attacks from the captain backed up by another handful from a mount would be enough to put the hurt on almost any unit in the game.

Like the Centurion but not a fan at all of the cyber-lion.

Would be awesome to see a Custodian Librarian with those books floating around him, would love to paint and put together a Custodian captain on a cyber lion. The the Centurions, just make me think of kastalan robots, but over all soooo much better

Meh I don't like custodes, the less of them in official materials the better. Fan made stuff I don't care much about, unless GW decides that having fan art means you need to get more stuff and rules updates.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

You can tell it's fan art because the marines arn't rubbing their hands all over themselves in pleasure while a xenos sniffs their farts.

Yeah, it's Bear Cavalry territory. Other than that, very nice.

I think the artists name is Hammk. If you search for him for Warhammer art you can find a lot of stuff.

I really like his style

That art is very very tasty, but "over the top" ?

In a settings where space marines are already over the top, and that custodes are the over the top version of the already over the top marines, I would think that this Cyber lion fits just right...

If something like that ever comes to reality, then GW will have found another way to part this man from his lunch money...

Now I'm thinking of smooshing a dawneagle jetbike with one of the Stormcast mounts...

tl;dr : art is awesome, cyberlion, doubly so

Yeah, this guy has some of my favourites Warhammer 40k art I have ever seen. And many of his custom custodes units in his drawing? I would absolutely buy them:

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

The lion looks too broad for my liking, indeed its size and shape makes it look like it started life as a bear and then got a lions head put on top. To my mind a mecha-lion should be a bit thinner in body, sleeker rather than bulky.

And if GW made robo-lions for Custodes - yes! Yes I would have them! I love the idea.

Also who said things against bear cavalry? I thought it was impossible for any (true) geek to be against the idea of bear cavalry!?

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I would absolutely buy the lion...if it was a Crusade/Heresy-era special character. It really is too OTT for just a normal everyday unit(and tbh I still think it's quite sad that Custodes now have to have those), but it perfectly suits the kind of ridiculous pomp of the bodyguards of the Emperor when he's actually stoating about with them.

That pseudo-Centurion though? Wowza, I'd absolutely go for a unit of those. And it just makes the official Marine Centurion look even worse by comparison.

Although, looking at it, you know what the rough shape reminds me of? The Castellax. And now I want a unit of battle automata build specially to fight alongside the Custodes by the Emperor's own tech-clans that look like those.

The "Librarian" doesn't work since ol' Empy didn't want his personal guard being unreliable psykers, IIRC.

Talented artist though, great stuff.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal
