NOTE: This is my first attempt at painting or doing any thing related to models.

I have edited thread so i can just put all the pictures in this first post here.

This is the before and after images of my restoration, its not perfect but alot better imo. Alot of time was spent just going around all the detailed areas and in all the tight gaps sanding down the raised paint which there was alot of in small areas. I stripped them once when i bought them, then i painted black, then stripped them all again and then started all the sanding and crevice clean up etc etc, and now they are primed black and finished. There is still a hole in the side of the first tank, ill fix later.

I am mainly showing pictures of two that i spent the most time restoring, there was a 3rd tank that was not as bad but that was still part of this process, and theres another 2 mint tanks that i have stripped once after painting and not realising i had to prime first.

CLICK IMAGES TO GET HIGHER RESOLUTION, AND ZOOM IN TO GET MEGA MEGA HIGH QUALITY!!.

Thank you for every one in dakka and those who were involved in this thread, all the best to everyone and thank you.

Me too, man. It's like "This Old House" for people who aren't interested in home repair.

So far as the rivets go there are a billion ways to fix them, but my preference is getting some rivets from Tichy Train Group. They're easy and look great. You'd want about .04 (#8075). I like the next size up, .05 / 8076 as my all-purpose go-to rivet, but I like bigger ones for Orky vehicles.

Would be awsome if i found a new windshield for that cracked rhino screed, but if i just put tiny bit of green over it and try remould it i think it should be ok. Also the head lights need scratching out with some tiny little flat tool, or be better if i could replace them.

Should really have showed the tops of the tanks since the one in the very first photos top side was very bad, looks good now thugh

By any chance does "base" citadel paints when applied in multiple thin coats cause the paint to act like a primer or some thing?, i usualy can strip easy with isopropyl alcohol but for some reason even after leaving them in the alcohol for a long time i just cant scrub it off with a toothbrush like i normally can very easily, but i still scratch the paint off with my finger nail ( not that easily ), but it would take for ever to remove paint like that, and some of the paint actauly is not removable with my nail so i duno.

Yeah, certain primers are a bitch to get off - but you can normally get "most" of it off, to the point where you're fine just priming over it and starting fresh. Looking good so far!

Not terrible. Keep it up. I hope you utilize all the rough spots effectively with paint chipping, weathering and battle damage.

i cant utiliz the rough spots because iv sanded them out completely, it may not look like it at moment but just wait till iv primed them tomorrow.

There should no rough spots i hope. But yeah it looks like it is rough in the pictures but trust me its smooth.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
any way i could have just turned them in to damage details before i started this whole thing but, id prefer them to look like the other 2 tanks that are pristine.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Any way just wait till tomrrow.

If it does turn out there is still visisble markings after i have primed them ill do what you said.

Hey guys i need help. I am painting the stuff in black legion colours, is it nessasary for me to also paint over the black primer with black base paint?, i asked the shop owner when i bought the primer if i could just get away with not also painting a black base over the black primer, he said no its nessasry to also do the base over top. What do you guys think?

Thank you.

That crossed my mind, so would you say im correct that its not nessasry and its quite common to only use the primer instead of also adding the same colour again but as a base.? Or what do you think i should do

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I seriously dont know why i would also use black base, i think he said because it makes it look better in some shape or form i just cant remember exactly wht he said.

Black paint is seldom the same color/gloss as black primer. This matters if you ever want to make corrections and are using a spray primer rather than a brushed on primer.

The extra layer also adds some durability, but that's secondary.

Also, if you go with a very dark grey base coat instead of black, you can use wash to deepen the crevices. Black primer generally is too dark for this.
