v1.0

Planning to buy a Tyranid army so I made together a 1250 list. My goal for this list was to be somewhat competitive but having some of the neat/fun models like the Exocrine.

I'm also pretty new to 40k, so I get there's some things like battalions that I could be doing better.

Don't be afraid to tear me a new one!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Tyranids) [79 PL, 1250pts] ++

+ HQ +

Broodlord [8 PL, 162pts]

Hive Tyrant [9 PL, 147pts]: 2x Monstrous Rending Claws, Toxin Sacs

+ Troops +

Genestealers [16 PL, 192pts]: 4x Acid Maw
. 16x Genestealer: 16x Rending Claws, 16x Scything Talons

Genestealers [16 PL, 192pts]: 4x Acid Maw
. 16x Genestealer: 16x Rending Claws, 16x Scything Talons

Termagants [6 PL, 72pts]: 18x Termagant (Fleshborer)

+ Heavy Support +

Biovores [4 PL, 100pts]: 2x Biovore, Show Spore Mine Rules

Exocrine [11 PL, 216pts]

Trygon [9 PL, 169pts]: 3x Massive Scything Talons, Toxinspike

++ Total: [79 PL, 1250pts] ++

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

v1.1

New updated list!

I wanted to put in the Hormaguants over the rippers just for the sole reason that the Hormagaunt model is one of my favourites.

I'm going to buy a Tyrannofex next and I'll swap them out interchangeably, I just really like the way the Exocrine looks.

Note: A close buddy of mine is a Tau player, so I thought the Mawloc would be good with tying units up.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Tyranids) [64 PL, 1248pts] ++

+ HQ +

Broodlord [8 PL, 162pts]

Neurothrope [4 PL, 70pts]

+ Troops +

Genestealers [16 PL, 330pts]: 5x Acid Maw, 5x Flesh Hooks
. 20x Genestealer: 20x Rending Claws, 20x Scything Talons, 20x Toxin Sacs

Hormagaunts [6 PL, 72pts]
. 12x Hormagaunt: 12x Adrenal Glands

Termagants [9 PL, 192pts]
. 24x Termagant (Devourer): 24x Devourer

+ Heavy Support +

Biovores [4 PL, 100pts]: 2x Biovore, Show Spore Mine Rules

Exocrine [11 PL, 216pts]

++ Total: [64 PL, 1248pts] ++

Not a nid player, but if you add a HQ to your heavy support you can have a spearhead detachment for +1CP. Hive tyrants usually have wings (flyrants), you can deepstrike them, protects them from being shot first turn.

Flyrants, of course!

Thanks for the tips!

In your thread, trolling.

The Tyrannofex with Acid Spray is the most beastly deliciousness you could ever field in a Tyranid Army.

18" Heavy 2D6 (4D6 if he didn't move), Strength 7, -1 AP, D3 damage, AUTO HITS... plant two of these bad boys in the middle of the table for super effective dominance. Giggle with delight as you melt anything and everything apart. Trust me, it's underestimated by other players and you want this.

I usually save the Hive Tyrants for 1500+ games. There's no point to having two sets of Monstrous Rending Claws, it doesn't give him bonus attacks. MRC, Hvy Vennom Cannon, and Wings, will make him something that your enemy will need to pay attention to.

A better alternative would be to take a Neurothrope for your warlord. They're cheap and tough as balls.

Run the Broodlord with just one large unit of Genestealers. Take the points from the other Genestealer unit and beef up your Gaunts. Use them to tie up the enemy while you get positioned with your Genestealers and Trygon.

Thanks for all the tips!

Those Tyrannofex's stats literally sound like the most beastly deliciousness I could ever ask for, hahaha.

I ran the Genestealers in two units to satisfy the battalion detachment rules (2 HQ, 3 Troops) although I don't know how valuable command points are or what other detachments are made of.

Ripper swarms are cheap and can hold objectives now. So now you can afford to collapse the Genestealers into one unit and save yourself some points.
