What's a good loudout/strategy for a deathwatch redemptor dreadnought. I really love the model and would like to make it semi competitive

Mine is all dakka. Double gatling. The frag launchers are a matter of taste. Stuff it in the teleportarium.

Didn't you already post a thread about this? Why do you need to make a new one?

Well it has some solid anti infantry damage with being able to spit out 18 HB shots alongside some stormbolter shots and a baby's first rocket pod. Only problem here is that you already are solid on the anti infantry front, but hey it's still effective firepower in that area. Could also work out if you are fighting hordes.

The other option really would be to swap out the 12 HB shots for the plasma cannon. It's really random what you get with it because it's a straight D6 shots with no ability re-roll outside of a command point which you are likely to be tight on. You will average 3.5 shots so assuming you have full re-rolls you'll be looking at 2-3 hits at s8 ap-4 2 damage over charged. So against t7 you are only really going to do 4 wounds or maybe only even 2 against t8 so it's not really effective anti-tank and with pure weight of fire you can dakka more elite tier units down just fine with the gatling loadout with the added bonus of not hurting yourself.

Overall I think the gatling variant is a bit better, but it only brings what you already really have. Also be careful about bringing one alone. If it's your only armor it's going to do turn 1 every time and will never make it's points back.

Personally I am more of a fan of the Armigers compared to the redemptor, but that's another topic entirely.

It has a lot of extra value stuffed into the teleportarium.

One CP to play with your toy is not bad I'll give you that.

It might even make the 9" charge and beat up something expensive!

Bonus points for giving captain support to my intercessor/inceptor/aggressor squad that comes down with it.

Man isn't it great that you can deep strike the thing in deathwatch? It's actually quite a beast in CC.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

I'm not so sure I'd call it a beast. It has four attacks that hit on 3s. Yeah it's s14 -3 and d6, but it's still going to do like 7 damage on average to a rhino or something. It's not that impressive for what it costs. If it was t8 and had an invuln call me, but for the points you pay it's too squishy and lacks true killing power for it's points.

If you're insistent on using it, Plasma might actually fulfill a niche of helping with anti-tank.

Dreads typically have no invulnerable save.

Bow down to Guilliman for he is our new God Emperor!

Martel - "Custodes are terrible in 8th. Good luck with them. They take all the problems of marines and multiply them."

"Lol, classic martel. 'I know it was strong enough to podium in the biggest tournament in the world but I refuse to acknowledge space marines are good because I can't win with them and it can't possibly be ME'."

DakkaDakka is really the place where you need anti-tank guns to kill basic dudes, because anything less isn't durable enough.

DS with Stormbolters and dakka is the way to go for sure. I think dakka beats plasma on nearly all targets, except high T 2+ stuff.

Rockets are optional, I prefer to avoid them, to keep the thing under 200pts...

Redemptor is a bad choice, because of that. Go for a contemptor dread, regular, relic or mortis. The regular and mortis are cheaper, 5++ invuln sv, can pick every weapon twice, from kheres assault cannons, to autocannons, even two twin lascannons. It has no CCW, but it still has 4 attacks at S7 AP0 D1.
