Hey,

i´m new here and pretty new in the hobby

i played a few 750 - 1250 games and now i want to go a bit "more serious" 1500 against harder lists in a litte tournament. so my idea is so following:

Battalion Armageddon

2x Company Commander (1 CP-Farm)

3x10 Inf Squads, each with 1 Plasma and Bolter on Sergeant

Special Weapons Squad
-3 Plasma

Command Squad
-3 Plasma

4x Chimera with double HeavyBolter


Spearhead Catachan


Colonel Ironhand Straken

Veterans with 3 Flamer, 1 Heavy Flamer and Energieweapon on Sergeant

Sergeant Harker

1 Hellhound

1 Manticor

1 Wyvern

1 Basilisk




Tactic:

Harker + Manti, Basi, and Wyv OOS and shot the gak out of them.

on one flank: Special Weapons Squad + Command Squad + Company Commaner in a Chimera, supported by the Hellhound. Clearing heavy infantry with massive plasma.

wherever needed: Straken + Veterans in Valkyrie. Jump out and flame something / charge little units.

then i have 3 chimeras full of guys and a Valkyrie which can give a little firesupport when Straken is out.


what do you think? maybe net the top tier list, but a lot of fun playing it

a few notes:
the wyvern is very bad, considering that if you really need anti-infantry stuff you can have 3 heavy weapons teams with mortars for 99 points... That's 9d6 hits instead of 4D6, I'd say that's clear enough.
Also, I understand the "completely mechanized" thing, but I'm not sure having so many Chimeras is actually useful. With those points you could have like 2 more Manticores (which are awesome), or many other things.
Finally, but most importantly: where are Pask and the tank commanders?? They are simply the best units in the codex do whatever you can to sqeeze in one or more of them, they are just powerful.

In case you are interested, here's how I would make a 1500 pts army that's very different from yours, but you could still make use of some ideas, who knows. It's a brigade and lots of guys are on foot, which btw is something you will need, because ur opponents tend to rush towards ur troops, AIP near you and charge, etc, so you need layers of expendable troops to use as screens for your big guns.

I ran "dakka bus" Chimera builds in 7th, man they work amazingly well, throw a stubber or storm bolt on the pintle. Also good call on giving the Sgts bolters, it's a great 1 or boost to inf squads. Not a bad list amigo, as long as it's fun to play with, it will make you happy.

-Me: Don't tell the commissar but i left my Imperial Infantrymans Uplifting Primer at home, but I do carry a folded Texas flag behind my front plate.
-Friend: Texas flag gives you AV14 all around.

Jury-Rig - makeshift repairs or temporary contrivances, made with only the tools and materials that happen to be on hand, the Machine Spirit is not pleased......

The Wyvern is not bad. They're so good. I think the best Chimera load-out is twin Heavy Flamer. A bit on the expensive side, but turns them all into baby Hellhounds. If you have to move with them, which you will, 2x Heavy Bolters hitting on 5+ do nothing and they're likely going to get assaulted at some point. Might as well roast some models on the way in.l

I'm not particularly convinced that the Spearhead will be as good as you think. You've got a bit of a mix of artillery, whereas you may find it better to focus on one type. Additionally the Veterans probably won't achieve much as while you've loaded them up with Flamers, they're still T3 with a 5+ (are Vets still 4+?) save. I would drop the Vets, use the points leftover to upgrade your Wyvern to another Manticore, and anything left over to bulk out the infantry in the Battalion.

Actually why would you replace the Multilaser with HB'S? The multilaser is a better multipurpose tool.
Another problem is that Chimeras are quite expensive.
The wyvern can easily be substituted by mortar teams for less pts and more shells.

Mechanized is preety dead for all ground bound factions sadly, compared to Eldar and DE with fly our transports are overpriced for minimal additional toughness.

That beeing said: mechanized can be a lot of fun especially for a start into the hobby, they are reasonably small to properly paint fast, relatively easy to transport and in case of Guard are less mechanized units and more along the lines of Tankgrenadiers.
