Ok guys, i washed the gold and steel of my black legion with that citadel nun oil wash, i just realised after that your supposed to wash the gold with a brown wash not the nun oil stuff... any way basicly what it has done it made the gold look more like bronze or some thing i guess. What i want to know is if any one here thinks its a big deal. And am i right that the washes are generally always darker then the colour you are putting it on??, because i guess if thats the case it still "works" with creating shades in the gold, its just a bit darker...
Thanks everyone.

A wash is generally darker than what you're washing over, as is will flow and collect in the recesses. Since we typically want recesses to look like shadows, it is generally better to use a darker colour.
I generally like to use Reikland Fleshshade over gold, as I like the reddish-brown colour. Reminds me of antique gold, but that's just a personal preference. There's no hard and fast rule.
You can ( for reals ) shade gold with a purple wash. Or black. Heck, you could shade it with green, if you wanted. Most people choose brown because it looks like "dark yellow". I usually use browns for yellows (gold), red, orange and browns, of course.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, mate. If it looks a little dark go over it with another layer of gold or just smack on some gold highlights. Either should brighten it up sufficiently.
In regards to the shading gold with purple and in a similar vein, i've also heard (but never tried it) that a good shade for red is green.
