Hi everyone,
I've been looking to get myself set up with a good painting lamp to aid painting in the evening. I've been researching but most of the recommendations I've seen are either US based (not available in the UK) or old enough that they aren't available any more. Is anyone able to recommend anything?
I understand I need something 5000-6500k but i'm not sure what brightness etc. would be best (who knew lightbulb were so complicated!)

A daylight LED bulb from wilkos is what i use in mine. The wattage and fitting etc. would depend on the lamp you are using. Mine are 4w LED for typical long armed desk lamps. Having 2 lamps or a good ceiling light is also useful so you can clearly see more than one side of your model.

I use one of these for my painting Ottlite. It is more than bright enough, is daylight LED and comes with a handy magnifying glass when you need it.

4300k is white light, I used to have 8000k HIDs in my bmw and that was purple
I have cheap pifco led lamps that emit a white light, very strange at first

I use one called 'Minisun', which is 30w (equivalent to 150w older bulb). You can get it on Ebay UK. Be warned it is BRIGHT!

One thing to be aware of if you're tempted to get the cheapest possible LED lamp: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_rendering_index
For painting, where you need accurate colors, you want the highest possible CRI. A cheap low-CRI lamp might save a few dollars, but at the cost of making it very difficult to judge the colors you're painting.
