Hello ladies and gents, so these days I find myself watching all kinds of videos on you tube and other sites and I came across this in my usual delve into modern western politics (not US, UK but german, french etc. too), it was a couple of months ago

Now after watching this I got the impression that Jordan was a radical right winger, and that of course was the point.

Then a few days ago I came across this

The self same interview but it actually covers his answers, to say the least I was a bit shocked, not by the content, but by the clear attempt at character assassination, they had deliberately quoted him out of context, claimed he was alt right in spite of him denouncing them (and he has done so repeatedly).

So this got me thinking, is this the norm, I know the Beeb over here has been guilty of it from time to time, but I have never seen such a clear case of the dangers of media bias.

So what do the talking heads at dakka think.


BTW, I understand that for a few of you dakkaites Mr Peterson is a very inflamatory person, but try to keep your emotions in check and keep this discussion civil.

It is middle of the night right now in Poland so nothing more from me at the moment, but if this thread survives opened for the next 12 hours I'll try to post a bit more about why Peterson is so hated by left wing from perspectives of history of philosophy, modern psychology, psychiatry and neuroscience... And now just to be clear why I respect the man, as it has absolutely nothing to do with US politics, alt-right as defined by US far left and other political reasons. He is first and foremost a psychometrist and clinical psychologist and I first came by him via his lectures on personality traits (available here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCceO_D4AlY. This is by far the best popular lecture on this subject, that is both in-depth and understandable to relatively layman people.) And as a person who has a 20 years of close and complicated personal history with entire fields of psychology and psychiatry I completely understand his deep frustration with academic community that led to his gender pronouns situation...

So long as certain people abide by the rules nou it shouldn’t be closed down, this isn’t a politics post but a post about Jordan Peterson and media bias (either, or and both).

I personally find it shocking that such a mainstream news outlet allowed a very clearly biased and error ridden piece out, the editor should be ashamed.

Again, look up his nonsense on lobsters and how they supposedly demonstrate human social structures. It's an absolute joke to anyone who understands biology, making the kind of mistakes that an undergraduate student would be expected to avoid, but because it reinforces the political agenda of Jordan Peterson and his followers it's embraced as truth. And TBH the same problem applies to most of evolutionary psychology, it's a joke "science" consisting of little more than making up media-friendly stories to justify a particular set of political beliefs. Peterson is a fraud in a whole field of frauds.

Alternately, if you want to go back to the original source of his fame, you find him swearing not to use gender-neutral pronouns like the singular "they". Except not only is he being a about it, in his original statement on the subject he uses the singular "they" himself! But apparently we're supposed to ignore the fact that the singular "they" is common in English, with hundreds of years of precedent behind it, and just make outraged noises about the SJWs and FREEDOM OF SPEECH and such.

Of course it's a thread about politics. Jordan Peterson's entire public presence is about politics and his political agenda, the idea that you can separate him from the politics is just absurd.
