Hi all,

I have my first army half painted, 2/3s build and mostly planned, so of course I am thinking of a second army. I know how I want it to play but I don't know which faction can do it best.

I want bikes and dreads. A fast cloud of bikes or cav or something around a hard core of dreadnoughts or monsters or something. I don't want infantry or tanks.

It doesn't need to be competitive, I am playing dark elfs now and am undefeated. But I would like to have a chance. I am looking at grey knights do they get bikes? Also space wolves and blood angles.

Deamon Seekers and Soul Grinders would work.

I'll run terminators or those werewolves.

Orgyns, roughriders, and those sentinel would meet the theme as well.

No Nurgle. Its icky. Any sugestions apreacted.

I'm going to assume you're looking at Marines here (though could be Orks!).

Best army for Bikes right now is Ravewing Dark Angels, thanks mostly to their jink. They also get Black Knights who are pretty rad. Plus they have the only Imperium jetbike (other than the hundreds of Custodes Shield Captains )

Not necessarily Space Marines I was wondering if Orcs could work, but from what I hear the dreads, and Kans really aren't tough enough to actully bother, and the bikes aren't choppy enough. But I don't know.

I would be happy to run 'Nids as well.

Nids are fun, assault marines are eh, assault orks are fun.

In general, most of the Ork vehicles (bikes included) are not strong enough on their own...But they are still fun to play, don't get me wrong. They lack the issue of being a 2 wound model that leaves marine bikers so vulnerable to plasma, but they also only have a 4+ save, meaning any high AP weapon will melt their unit.

Nids are fun to paint, and fun to play.

No-one knows what will be good or bad post codex drop for Orks it could be another iteration of green tide or suddenly speedfreaks are the OP build.

grey knights don't get bikes, but if you're looking for a bike using terminator heavy power aror force you could look at dark angels... or custodes.

That said since it sounds like you're tempted by space wolves, might be an idea to wait until their codex comes out

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Grey knights don't get bikes? WTF? why not? Don't deamons go fast? They need bikes to catch them.

Chaos Spacemarines tick your boxes. They have bikes and Daemon Engines, plus if you want more monsters throw in some Daemon Princes / Greater Daemons.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Nids are probably your best bet. You get your raveners to be similar to bikes and you get the biggest selection of monsters in the game.

While IronBrand has a strong case (I have nids - I'm prejudiced), let me put it this way:

How many people do you know who do not enjoy playing Orks?

My advice for second army is dependent upon your situation.

If you have family/friends who like to play but not paint or collect, choose an army that your primary army would realistically fight against. This way, you can play with cheap/ broke people by supplying an army.

If you do not, choose an army that could conceivably ally with your primary force so that you have the capacity to play truly huge, epic battles when the opportunity/ story hook in your campaign presents itself.

Custodes or Deathwatch.

Possibly Orks if their new codex fixes them.

They have personal teleporters, you know.

And I second Deathwatch. The only good cheap SM bikes with firepower significantly boosted by SIA, you also have access to good dreadnoughts and can teleport your units in multiple ways for extra speed. Also, I don't know how you feel about jump pack marines but you can add them to bike squads for extra special rules and melee power no other SM army gets in fast moving units.

Renegade chaos marines may charge after advancing, giving their bikes a huge range and quite certain 1st turn charges.

Alternatively take a look at scout bikes which offer quite some dakka for their points.

@Jump packs in bikes:
You only get that in 10 model veteran squads you split via combat squad rules. Which requires you to take 5 regular dudes on foot. Just FYI
