For you Thousand Sons fans out there, which would be the better book to use my current remaining credit on? Magnus the Red (Primarch series) or A Thousand Sons (Horus Heresy)?

Thanks

A Thousand Sons is pretty good. It does assume that you know of most of the events during/just before the Heresy (or have read at least some of the earlier books in the series), but beyond that it's pretty good.

(Har har someone who already knows most of the lore complaining that a 40k book assumes that you know most of the lore. I guess that makes me a hypocrite?)

hmm damn hard question, both are excellent, in an ideal world the answer would be undoubtedly "both" If I had to choose just one? hmm... I'd go with a thousand sons. it's your introduction to the Heresy era 1k sons, and shows you the event that was without a doubt, the most important event in the legions history

A Thousand Sons was good, but for the life of me i just CANNOT get through Prospero Burns. Gave the book away after trying to get past the first chapter for months.

Funny I rather enjoyed the book, although towards the end it gets a bit.. odd, I woulda prefered it if the writer of PB had just dropped the whole Hawser subplot.

Thousand sons for sure! It is one of, if not the best black library books.

A Thousand Sons for sure. Fantastic book. And you will really get your money's worth with that one. That's a long book.

I haven't had the opportunity to read A Thousand Sons yet, but I can tell you that Magnus's primarch book is excellent and a great look at the legion's philosophy pre-fall. As a bonus it doubles as a fantastic Iron Warriors book.

Honestly I think 1K sons vs Magnus can be best described as "are you more intreasted in 1k sons vs space wolves, or 1K sons and Iron Warriors team up"

Magnus the red as it adds a lot of context to a thousand sons and puts a nail in the coffin of “Magnus did nothing wrong”

I I personally enjoyed a thousand sons far far more, the battle for prosperous is truly epic. It's a very good story that is told very well. It also describes one of the most crucial events in the heresy.

Magnus the red is also an amazing book, but has nothing to do with the events of the heresy. It's thrilling and enjoyable just not as much as a thousand sons
