Blood Sacrifice to Khorne

Hi all,

Been falling behind on painting recently, and thought i would start using this as a way to set goals and show off what i paint. As the first post, i will showcase some of the first models i painted when i got into the hobby about 2 years ago now. I decided to settle on Khorne Daemonkin (7th edition) as i loved the models and brutal feel to the army after a few sessions.
When i first started, i was gifted a skull cannon (built but never painted) and bought myself a start collecting Khorne Daemons set.

My first models to get painted were a simple squad of 10 Bloodletters and a Herald i converted with the leftovers from the Cannon/blood throne kit. The paint job isn't great, mainly as it was my first, but i enjoyed it and soon wanted more.

Here they are!

As you can see, the highlighting is... sloppy at best, but i used what little knowledge of painting i had at the time as best i could. I basecoated with Army Painter Dragon Red i believe, then coated the skin with mephiston, a wash with carroberg crimson and various highlights with mephiston red and evil sunz scarlett, and some sloppy use of troll slayer orange on a few areas. The brass areas were balthasar gold base coat with agrax wash and sycorax bronze highlights, the blades simply the same but without the wash. The black on the Heralds armour plates were an experiment and a mistake at the same time... and i still use the same recipe for certain items even now. It was basecoated with abaddon black then i brushed on the Forgeworld Corvus black airbrush paint (i didnt thin it any), gave it a nuln oil wash and a tidy up in some areas. I think it has a nice mottled effect on the black hinting at worn and used armour plating.

Not bad for a first squad i dont think!

Let me know what you think! I'm currently painting Kharn the betrayer and a rather large friend for him, a Kytan i picked up last year at Warhammerfest but never finished due to work and university!
Next post will include pictures of the next models i painted when i started, including a daemon prince and 3 blood crushers, while i make the finishing touches to Kharn and his friend.

Blood Sacrifice to Khorne

Hi all,

So Kharn the Betrayer has finally been finished and progress on the Kytan has been slower but i have made great steps. Today i wanted to show off Kharn as well as a few of my older models as promised last time- the Daemon prince Khazash the Empowered and a squad of Bloodcrushers.

Firstly though, Kharn was a grat model to build and paint. I tried something new with the power armour- i tried thinning my reds to a near glaze level with acrylic thinners to build up colour rather than just layering and highlighting. I stated with Khorne red, then a wash with nuln oil and multiple layers of thinned mephiston red, with one or two spots of evil sunz. Kharn has so many details and sections to paint so i won't go into a massive amount of detail on him, but one area i enjoyed was his weapon, where i used warplock bronce highlighted with brass scorpion and my first use of nihilikh oxide. Any questions ask away!

The daemon prince, Khazash the Empowered (a name that will be explained in my next post), was a delight to paint and my first large model. The skin and armour all uses the same recipe as on the bloodletters and herald, but the sword was an idea i wanted to try. I wanted a fiery, molten look to it, so decided to build the sword from white highlighting to red using the lower layer to be my molten core, then layered nuln oil rather than black paint to give it a burnt feel to the edge. Also the first sightings of my basing schemes can be seen here- basically lava, rock and a smattering of skulls. Also he is holding the skulls of his most recent kills! Let me know what you think!

Next up are my bloodcrushers. Only 3 so far (more on the way). The bloodcrushers themselves were fun to pose on the bases, with one jumping a lava flow and the others i wanted to be seemingly galloping towards a hunted target. Painting them was fun, with the riders the same recipe as my bloodletters and the juggernaughts a rather simple khorne red and mephiston/ evil sunz highlight and various brass and silver bits added in. My next squad will likely be better as my skills has improved since i painted these, but i love them nonetheless

Progress on future models is likely to be slow, as i have managed to secure a promotion at work, but i plan on a further 20 bloodletters and 3 more crushers to join their brethren soon, as well as 2 squads of berserkers and Rhino transports for Kharn to have some buddies

That's all for now. As always, Let me know what you think! Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
