Hi! I’m new to 40k and Kill Team, and I’m struggling a bit with the attacks characteristic as it pertains to a genestealer.

The genestealer has 3 attacks which, as I understand it, allows it to attack 3 times in melee in the fight phase. On page 34, the rules seem to state that each of these 3 attacks can be made with any available melee weapon. If so, having a pair of hands and a pair of rending claws seems like a complete waste. Is it? Is there any reason NOT to take a pair of scything talons and a pair of rending claws? Or can, perhaps, a genestealer take two pairs of scything talons? If so, the choice would be between having one or two pairs of scything talons. Am I missing something? Oh, and can a genestealer with acid maw attack 3 times with that weapon?

Vety thankful for any help!

Best wishes,
Ogrim

After the chapterhouse law suit all models have the ootions that are on the spruce.

If the ootion of both weapons are there and they are free take them all. They will come in handy vs things with armour anf things with ++. Later on the points mighy be erata adjusted. At this point you might wanne chop off some parts if you stil play nids.

Yes, as currently written there's absolutely no reason not to take a set of scything talons and a set of rending claws, apart from trying to use more attractive models.

Having both grants the Genestealer significant additional flexibility and no drawbacks, and costs zero points. All I would say is that I wouldn't be completely shocked if this was changed in the FAQ.

@OP's other questions:
• I think genestealers can only take one pair of scything talons
• A genestealer with an acid maw can use the acid maw for all 3 attacks (edit: or 1 with talons, 2 with maw; 1 with claws, 1 with talons, 1 with maw; etc.)
