When you take wolf guard pack leader, how do you equip it?

Do you go light for a little extra wargear or do you go balls to the wall, terminator with cyclone missile launcher, thunder hammer and hope you get to use the lone wolf stratagem to go beast mode?

So far as I can see WGPL can't take heavy weapons. I usually take a regular WGPL with a Thunderhammer (with new codex). Used to just give them a Powersword or Power Axe. The 3 damage is useful in enough situations that its worth the points. IMO.

The one in a lone Wolf squad can take heavy weapons.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I think you generally have a few options:

1. Don't take one at all, as they are pricey.
2. Hammer in a smashy squad. Blood claw wolf guard are especially good for this, because they get the bonus attack on the charge where others do not.
3. Combi plasma in a shooty squad. Probably best for GH squads.
4. Hammer and Combi plasma. I'd only consider this in blood claw squads as it's very expensive.
5. Termy armor. Storm shield, storm bolter. To sit in lone Wolf squads to give them more durability. Optional cyclone missile launcher (very pricey).

I don't think you need storm shields or termy armor on wolf guard that have other weapons, since it's better to just lose a blood claw/grey hunter than risk losing the hammer. Termy armor also means no rhino/razorbacks.

Generally a combi weapon to match the special in the Hunter pack. I do have a TDA model with combi-plas and Frost Axe that I am proud of as it was one of my first ever conversions so that gets wheeled out from time to time although it is more "rule of cool" than best for points.

To me it depends on where the battle leader is sitting.

Blood claws : Thunder Hammer
Grey Hunters : Combi Plasma
Long Fangs : Storm Shield and Storm Bolter

I use my longfang bl as a shield, anything big that comes his way he blocks like a jerk (and typically does this job well enough).

This, except i dont use wgpl in long fang packs, as i would rather have a regular long fang become lone wolf with his heavy weapon. I think TDA wgpl with cyclone is too expensive, and that a stormbolter alone on him doesnt do enough.
