Automated Rubric Marine of Tzeentch
|
I currently have a 600 point skirmish list:
++ Patrol Detachment (Imperium - Space Marines) [29 PL, 599pts] ++
+ No Force Org Slot +
**Chapter Selection**: Ultramarines
Gametype: Matched
+ HQ +
Captain in Terminator Armor [7 PL, 111pts]: Iron Resolve, Power sword, Storm bolter, The Sanctic Halo, Warlord
+ Troops +
Tactical Squad [9 PL, 203pts]
. 7x Space Marine
. Space Marine Sergeant: Combi-melta, Power fist
. Space Marine w/Heavy Weapon: Missile launcher
. Space Marine w/Special Weapon: Meltagun
+ Elites +
Venerable Dreadnought [8 PL, 182pts]: Twin lascannon
. Dreadnought combat weapon w/Storm Bolter: Storm bolter
+ Heavy Support +
Whirlwind [5 PL, 103pts]: Hunter-killer missile, Storm bolter, Whirlwind castellan launcher
++ Total: [29 PL, 599pts] ++
Created with BattleScribe
What would you recommend I take for 150 points to make it up to 750 points?
I'm not looking to change any of the existing units as they're all WYSIWYG and fully painted (except the Whirlwind) so please only suggest additional units up to 150 points. I'm happy to swap the Whirlwind castellan launcher for a vengeance launcher depending on the faction I'm up against though.

One 5 man intercessor with grenade launcher and a scout squad? 91 points for the intercessor and 55 for the scouts.

Lieutenant (w master-crafted boltgun) (63) (Castor) Tactical Squad 5 men strong-(w. Pair lightning Claws & Heavy Bolter) (87) 150pts exactly -------------------------- By purchasing your larger tactical squad as 2 squads; you have 3 troops in my expansion pitch; along with 2 HQs fulfilling a battalion for +5 command points, added to your 3 for being battle forged. Those precious command points should help tip the balance of games in your favour, and enable the Heavy bolter & Missile Launcher to utilise their mortal wound stratagems. Pair lightning claws sgt for the sweet modelling opportunity and a reliable counter assault threat at the 750pts bracket. Plus y'know...scoring. A necessity I feel Alex_85 would agree, based on his choice of recommendation. . All the best; GamerGuy

It's difficult to fault that logic - 5 extra CP, Lieutenant buff and more TACs

Totally agree. An filling a Battalion without changing anything you had on your list, perfect.

Having just found out that a local gaming group play monthly 800 point games I could replace the Terminator Captain with Marneus Calgar in Terminator Armour, his Honour Guard and a Lieutenant with a mater-crafted boltgun. That would give an extra 2CP.

woah woah woah…. what happened? 800pts- we can work with. not a problem. happy to help. what happened to the 3rd tactical squad? did you remove them or forget to add them in? this list looks significantly weaker in my opinion, and I'm happy to explain why. First up; you're down to 1 troops unit again. 4 (+2) command points in the game? ouch. with variable efficiency out of the whirlwind he'll want points, plus the missile launcher mortal wounds strat…. you'll run out fast. Calgar. Man I loved Marneus when I first started playing ultramarines, theres something appealing about dropping in a beatstick and knowing he'll hit like a brick wherever you need to apply pressure?..... but at 800pts he's A QUARTER of your list. Which leads me to my next point: Honour guard can't even Deepstrike in with him- What's their plan? they currently cost you 52pts for 2 dudes with axes and bolters designed to take hits for the warlord.... company vets do it cheaper, and thus arguably better when it comes to ablative wounds... I'm struggling to see what you were going for here brother.... Calgar (despite how much it pains me) is only *JUST* viable at maybe 1000-1250pts... He's eaten up a hell of a lot of resource for a standard buff bubble and no way of utilising both his bubble and melee prowess Sorry to be such a downer on your list dude. Good idea, wrong point value. to Utilise Calgar best throw him in a list with 3 AssCan Razorbacks and Move up the board getting the chapter masters re-rolls on many hits, while also getting into punching range... I'll be back later with my suggestion for what you could run at 800pts, the extra 50pts are an interesting development. GamerGuy

Don't worry - I appreciate that the battalion detachment CPs with additional troops would be more competitive. I'm just looking at options to bring some interesting units for 200 points.

Go ahead - I'd be interested to see what you recommend.

Since the announcement of 'Primarneus Calgar' 2 days ago that box is no longer available anyway:

I see your list lacking board control. As others have stated, expensive named HQs should generally be left to higher point games.
I would recommend some scouts, maybe a cheap HQ with a JP or bike. That way you can get to those objectives and get the points that win games

So other options I'm considering for another 200 points:
• Assault Terminators (close combat)
• A Landspeeder Typhoon and a Lieutenant (fast attack, datalink telemetry and wound rerolls)
I appreciate these don't bring additional CPs, but I think I'd rather add interesting units than more troops, even if it's not the most competitive option.

Good luck with whatever list you eventually use!
my two cents.
Captain is more useful than lieutenant IMO for his ability to become a Chapter Master (for Command Points) which allows units within 6" to reroll ALL failed hits instead of just ones.
Iron Resolve is awesome warlord trait. But if you really want to take advantage of it then you should try getting the Relic The Shield Eternal. 3++ inv save but even better all damage you receive is halved (rounding up)
IMO that is better than Sanctic Halo .
If you combine all those together yo uget a Captain making all his squads reroll everything to hit. And able to shrug off most damage.

If you are not a fan of scouts and making that 5CP battalion, I would still recommend something faster than termies. Bikes, jump packs, even vehicles would help you capture and control points (AKA win games).
My $0.02 anyway

What do you think of the Landspeeder/Lieutenant option?

I prefeer bikes. I only used two times LS. One was the one with the scouts giving me a nice behind enemy lines disturbing.
Maybe combine some bikes with attack bike and also the LT.

TBH I have not fielded my land speeder in 8th, nor have I seen any in YouTube BatReps. I always assumed they were garbage, but you know what they say about assuming.
I say give it a shot. Everyone plays differently, and maybe it will work for you. After all, this is a game about having fun. As a dark eldar player, I like taking my beast master (non completive unit) because I made a cool conversion using those dinosaur cavalry from Fantasy. Even if I don't win the game, I still win because DINOSAUR CAVALRY!!!

Well CA was a twist of fate! My 800 point list is now 700 points and I've only played it once!
I guess I'll start a new thread and look to follow GamerGuy's advice and bulk out the troops to make it a Battalion detachment.
Merry Christmas GW
