Hi all.
Thinking of starting another project and am trying grab some advice on armies and their respective model counts.

I don't have a lot of knowledge on a lot of the armies so if anyone could point me in the right direction, that'd be awesome.

This is what I'm aware of:

VERY LOW:
- Imperial Knights
- Adeptus Custodes

LOW:
- Deathwatch
- Grey Knights
- Harlequins

MEDIUM:
- Space Marines variants
- Chaos Space Marines variants
- T'au
- Necrons
- Sisters of Battle
- Eldar
- Dark Eldar
- Ad Mech

HIGH:
- Tyranids
- Chaos Daemons
- Genestealer Cults

VERY HIGH:
- Orks
- Imperial Guard

Any thoughts? I wasn't really sure where to place Eldar and Dark Eldar into...

Most factions can have a range of model count builds. Imperial guard can have 10 models at 2K without super heavies, for example.

Your low and very low tiers don't have much choice but the rest do.

Daemons can run a close-to 3k list with just four minis, IIRC.

Generally, though, you're right with your classifications when it comes to the Factions.

The Fall of Kronstaat IV
Война Народная | Voyna Narodnaya | The People's War - 2,765pts painted (updated 06/05/20)
Волшебная Сказка | Volshebnaya Skazka | A Fairy Tale (updated 29/12/19, ep10 - And All That Could Have Been)
Kabal of The Violet Heart (updated 02/02/2020)

All 'crimes' should be treasured if they bring you pleasure somehow.

I just played against 'nid army that had only 16 models on the table, in 1750 pts game. So it really depends on what you want your army to do. Granted, some armies like Harlequins simply can't go much over 30 models in 2000 pts game, but it's also due to certain inherent restrictions in both army rules and ETC rules.

Not uncommon to see Chaos marines with 30 or 60+ cultists or other chaff (such as the ahriman/alpha legion combo list)

But are more frequently three vehicles, celestine with seraphim, and looking for allies... :p

and even custodes should proably be put in the Low model count list. Grey Knights and custodes are often going to field similer army sizes.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Well what sort of army were you thinking? I'm assuming you would like a smaller army that's easier to collect. If so, you probably want Custodes or if budget is a concern Deathwatch.

I don't own either army but they appeal to me because of their small size. I say DW is cheaper because you can make do with regular SM units and upgrade kits rather than buying super expensive kits.

Gets along better with animals... Go figure.
