My next tourney list in my local club

1500 on the nose

Battalion

HQ

129 wolf lord (jump pack, TH/SS, wulfenstone, saga wolfkin or hunter)

122 Runepriest (jump pack, runic stave, living lightning, fury of wolfspirits)

TROOPS

65 5xGrey hunters (stock)

65 5xGrey hunters (stock)

65 5xGrey hunters (stock)

ELITES

288 6xwulfen (5xTH/SS, 1x leader / twin frost claws)

FAST ATTACK

298 5xTWC (5xStormshields, 3xThunder hammers)

HEAVY SUPPORT

209 6xLongfangs (5xlascannons)

FLYER

259 Stormfang (2xtwin heavy bolters, helfrost destructor, twin lascannon)

TACT

Longfangs hide in a ruin and provide long range fire support with rerolling ones + rerolling wounds stratagem. Thunderwolves go with wolf lord and priest for +1 attack from wulfenstone, possible warlord trait buff and rerolling wounds of 1 from stratagem on standby. Stormfang stays close to wolf lord and priest for rerolling ones and possible chooser of the slain stratagem. Wulfen harass a side by themselves. Grey hunters capture objectives / provide backfield support to long fangs. Runepriest tries to get as much as possible in the -1 bubble first turn while being buffed in cc by wulfenstone and furry of the wolf spirits power. One grey hunters squad may enter the stormfang to be moved to the front with wulfen , thunderwolves , HQs etc

Other great strats that would go well with this list would be:

keen senses to stormfang or longfangs against minus to hit targets

The seeking a saga reroll wounds of the beatstick HQs against high power level targets

Honour of the chapter to fight twice with thunderwolves or wulfen

PS : I will model my wolf lord as a wulfenised marine cause i hate jump packs , and his fluff would be that he turned to halfwulfen thnx to the wulfenstone and thats why he is fast (moving 12" ignoring terrain )

I like the list but I will give my advice based off my expierence this edition and my expectations of our new dex.
1. I love wulfen and use them in 90% of my lists. I have had massive success with outflanking them with a wolf priest with jumppack. The wolf priest let's them reroll ALL failed hits and. Coupled with our new chapter trait means that's tons of hammer hits and with the Hammer at S10 that's lots of 3dmg wounds getting thru. He also can heal them and gives them his LD 9 for when a smart opponent inevitably focus fires them.

2. I feel people underestimate S5 weapons. If you have the wolf lord a pair of wolf claws he would have 8 x S5 -2AP attacks when using the wolfkin saga and wulfen stone. In order for the deed to buff the thunderwolves etc. he has to kill 5 enemy models. This is a great way to do it.

3. I used the Rune priest the other day in a game and plan to again tonight. I like the idea of either loading up on mortal wound spells or a mortal wound spell and the tempests wrath for the enemy to be at -1 to hit. Worked wonders for me this edition. Couple it if needed with the -1 to hit strat making a key enemy unit hit at -2.

I have other ideas but gotta get back to work. Let me know why you think about what I proposed.

Good points and thnx for feedback

1. The wolfpriest is very good supporting wulfen but in the batallion, in 1500 points, i think it is optimal to have 2 HQs because of the point limit and the high point cost of the marine units.
The 2 most optimal HQs in my opinion were the wolf lord cause gives you reroll ones and not all hits like the wolfpriest but he also buffs shooty units like the stormfang and is alot better in cc
and more survivable than the priest. The second HQ must be a runepriest because he opens up many stratagems and his powers are fun plus he provides psychic support and defence.

2. If you choose the claws for the wolf lord you gain an extra attack and reroll wounds (and the configurtion is cheaper in points) but you loose the high strength/damage of the thunderhammer and the bonus of our chapter tactic because you alredy hit on 2s so you dont need the +1 to hit. Also you loose the shield which makes your survivability a lot worse. As for reroll to wound you can still use the seeking a saga startagem against higher power level targets.

3. Runepriests are very good now and you have many reasons to take them. I prefer the living lightning + furry of the wolves spirit combo because you can either double smite an opponent (smite + living lightning) or cause some mortal wounds with living lightning and also be a hidden beast in cc with furry of the wolfspirits. I may give him the armour of russ for 1 CP for 4+ invul save and also be able to slow a good enemy cc unit down.

I see your point. I suppose the kit of the wolf lord would be dictated by the meta at your tournament. My store isn't really like anywhere else. I don't see lots of Knights etc. in my meta. The wolflord being S8 is good but not if you run into an ork/ tyranid horde. Additionally a S5 weapon can still wound a T8 target on 5s not factoring in rerolls. You need to kill 5 bodies and you'll want to get the wolfkin aura turned on to add attacks to the thunderwolves asap. The wulfen are stronger so I tend to use them for the heavy lifting against tough vehicles and big guys. I also don't own a stormwolf( wish I did) so I can get away with another HQ in my list or more bodies because I have the points.
