Ok, I’m gonna do a little Space Marine army, and I’m looking for suggestions for colour schemes or Chapters that would work with my ridiculous list of demands! Ok, so...

Models Available
- Guilliman (Heresy version)
- FW Typhon tank
- Cataphractii terminators
- some MkIV Marines and a load of random other marines
- an absolute ton of Primaris marines
- a couple of RT rhinos and contemptors

The plan is to make a 40k Marine force that can also be used as a small Heresy force if I want. The easy solution to this is just to paint them all as Ultramarines, right? Use the Primaris only in 40k and everything else in both systems.

THATS TOO EASY! I’d like my 40k force to look more interesting than just Ultramarines. It would be great if the 40k force could be an Ultramarines Successor chapter - maybe even one (ideally) one that had its origins in the original UM Legion - I could use the great variation of the Legions to just have MY Ultramarines look a bit different.

BUT WAIT! Surely something like the Marines Errant or Eagle Warriors would fit perfectly? Basically UM colours (blue/white quartered/halved) but I could always have the MkIV not be as obviously quartered, the tanks in a Heresy-like combination of blue and white. I could alternate between Eagle Warrior symbols and smaller Ultramarine symbols, and mixed over the whole army it would look fine.

THATS TOO FIDDLY. Seriously, I want to get this army painted one fmday and quartering 50 Primaris Marines sounds like a bloody nightmare! And I’ve got a whole White Scars army to paint at some point so another white army would be a pain.

The best idea I’ve seen so far is Void Tridents - with the blue done more as a mid-blue they’d fit the bill, but they’re a Primaris-only chapter which means no Catphractii, Typhon or Contemptors!

So, any ideas that fit? To recap:

- Ultramarines Successor
- Can pass for Heresy Ultramarines with a Chapter-specific variant scheme
- Not Primaris-only
- Not just UM with a different symbol
- Not white!!

Black Consuls, perhaps? Or the Nemesis Chapter? There's a decent bit of stuff for the Nemesis.

Nemesis are great because they definitely existed in the Heresy and had a cool black-and-blue scheme which is a nice variant Ultramarine scheme. But then they go all Heresy and change their colours to bright green!! Boo.

Black Consuls might be possible if, again, I do the pm a bit more as a blue-and-black scheme rather than just pure black with yellow trim - I wonder if that would read particularly well? I might be able to say ‘these are Nemesis chapter’ in 30k and ‘these are black consuls’ in 40k.

Scythes of the Emperor? In 40K, they're mostly, but not exclusively, primaris (thanks to the Tyranids). In 30K, they're a bunch of UMs guarding the Pharos on Sotha, already with their crossed scythes iconography (to honour the dutiful and hardworking local agricultural population).

Canonically, they're black and yellow. But you could change the black to dark blue to sort of blur the line between 30K and 40K.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.
