Was wondering if fellow members here could help me decide on my next army.

I've got the Primaris side of Dark Imperium and the Reivers from Kill Team ready to be built and all- but can't decide on which chapter!

I'm not trying to build a list which is super-competitive but I want to keep it mainly focused on Primaris marines and the lore.

I've narrowed it down to Dark Angels and Space Wolves.

Can anyone help me decide?

And before anyone asks, I like robes / hoods and I also like wolves

I'm not quite sure how the 2 chapters play on table top so playstyle isn't really an issue I guess.

Sell me on Dark Angels or Space Wolves please!

Why not both... Cue Mexican Hat Dance

Seriously though the wolf and the lion chapters vying for successful outcomes on the battlefield together. Awesome.

No, the paper does not beat The Rock.

I play Dark Angels, so of course I have a bias. I was initially drawn to them when I started in 1996 for being painted the only chapter in a sensible colour on a battlefield. Space Wolves are grey, however, which can also work so I guess its a tie there.

Both have deep lore which people either love or hate. They are both quite polarizing! So once again a tie and indeed you indicated that you like both.

Regarding play style, Dark Angels are primarily a shooting army. They weren't always this way, but we've gradually drifted there since 3rd Ed came out. Dark Angels can generate an eye-watering amount of firepower. The Dark Angels use Primaris very well - Hellblasters are wonderful and Aggressors can also work very well with Azrael. Standard Intercessors mesh fairly well with our rules and character auras/buffs. You can take big squads with less fear due to our Grim Resolve. Dark Angels Inceptors armed with Plasma are also quite a force.

We also have Ravenwing bikes and Deathwing Terminators if you like variety. The Ravenwing are quite mobile and shooty, but they are not really an assault army. The poor Deathwing have been treated roughly by 8th Edition, but they can surprise the odd opponent. Playing Dark Angels, therefore, gives you quite a bit of flexibility. You can make three very different armies within the same army.

If you want to get in close and choppy with the enemy then I suppose the Space Wolves would be your choice. Close and choppy doesn't seem to the be Primaris way, however, so I guess "Welcome to the Rock!"

All you have to do is fire three rounds a minute, and stand

I am aware there is a tactic that does something if you have both DA and SW (which is hella cool) but as of now, I'm looking to focus on one or the other

Thanks for the advice!
It's a pity Deathwing got treated poorly :( the Knight models are awesome...
Will definitely keep your reply in mind!

More suggestions welcome!

With playstyle being quite different being put aside..

I'd say go with what you think you will have more enjoyment in doing hobby-wise.

I THIIIINK dork angels might be the better choice for Primaris Marines. (tpartiuclarly hellblasters)

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

The first question is always: Do you like them? Will you paint them?

Without answering that, don't bother proceeding to the next step.

I'd say just pick your own chapter and play them both. If your more interested in the modeling and want to follow a set chapter, do the one you think you'd have more fun painting 100 of.

Dark Angels have really strong plasma.

Space Wolves have really strong hands.

One is clean shaven, uses incense.

One is a little hairy...musk.

One rides harlies.

One rides Doggos.

One is cold with the feels.

One lives in the cold.

Choose your destiny.

I mean ... Deathwatch has DAs and SWs in it, so I guess the answer is both and neither. Primaris, for now, are head and shoulders better in DW than in any other faction.

But hey, the wind changes. 9th will herald a big change for primaris, I suspect, so I guess I'd say 'go with your gut'.

Yeah go with the one you like the style and look of the most.

Weirdly for me the Dark Angels always held a strong appeal and the Space Wolves were very "don't care". Vikings in space? Puhleeease.

However the Horus Heresy books completely flipped my opinion. Dark Angels books are dull as dishwater, the SW books are absolute monsters and completely fascinating. The Vlka Fenryka!

Do what ever one you like. Dark Angrls support plamsa well, SW supports infantery well. Plasma stratagem and outflanking stratagem. Ptimaries are not tier one, so the strategic inpact of one or the other is small. The joy of painting a colour scheme you lier is high.
