Hey Everyone!
I am coming back into the game after a few year break and I need some advice. I have the above 3 armies and I am curious which one or ones are in a good state right now. My goal is not to invest time and energy in an army that will ultimately be curb stomped every time I field them. I dont play the competitive scene, but my primary opponent usually fields Tau with an emphasis on suits and Riptides.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

I have been reviewing the forums and it seems like most people agree with Craftworlds being in a good place. UM seems to depend on Bobby G and Necrons are settling into a mid tier group.

You might want to encourage your opponent to switch to heavier Fire Warrior lists, Strike Teams are really good now.

That will make him very sad. He was a big fan of suits with drones and jump, shoot, jump. Hopefully I won’t see multiple Riptides when we play.

The benefit of Craftworlds is that you can also buy Harlequins and/or Drukhari who have extensive plastic model ranges. They all play together nicely at the moment.

Necrons: Personally I hate the look of them but I guess they are easy to paint. One of the weaker armies right now due to being slightly overpriced across the board with no ability to ally in anyone else. If you're just paying local games you probably won't get curbstomped but they are not in a great place.

Ultramarines: Have a primarch and a huge model range. An all- or at least mostly-Primaris Ultramarines army is tough and futureproof. I feel like their playstyle of a semi-mobile gunline is not the most exhilarating but they're strong.

Out of those three I would choose Ultramarines, but if Orks interest you at all it might be worth waiting a month to see what they get.

Orks sadly don’t do it for me or I would. I am surprised by the Primaris comment though. I have always viewed them as overcosted and generally not worth their points compared to regular marines. Has something changed in the meta that I missed?
