Subject: [2000] - Militarum Tempestus - Take All Comers
As I love the look and the style of the elite specialists that make up the Militarum Tempestus, I’ve decided I’m going to make a full 2000 point army.
This is an idea for a Take-all-comers list, but with the power magnetized tauroxes, and saying that the Tempestor Primes are keeping their weapons beneath their coats, I could change the points on the Tempestor Primes and the Tauroxes (the Valkyries too, as it comes to mind). As needed.
The plasma command squads are gonna drop in with a Tempestor Prime (not the warlord). The Tempestor Prime will issue two orders and use inspired tactics for the third squad. Take aim, of course. So 24 overcharged plasma shots hitting on three’s, re-rolling one’s, exploding sixes. Hopefully deleting whatever I want. The melta squad holds a similar role, but is dropped out of a Valkyrie.
The Valkyries work three jobs. Transporting the melta squad/picking up the melta squad and what’s left of the plasma squads and Tempestor Prime, shooting Lascannons at heavy stuff, and unloading heavy-bolters and rocket pods into infantry while in hover mode. Basically being annoying. Heck, I could use the Crush Them stratagem and tie up some stuff as well.
The Taurox Primes are gun platforms and transports. Autocannons take out tough stuff, hot-shot volley guns for infantry. Battle cannon Tauroxes are for ranged fighting, Gatling cannons get close to take advantage of the doctrine.
The infantry in the patrol detachment are loaded up into their dakka Tauroxes with a Tempestor Prime in order to get close and destroy chaff and screens. The hot-shot volley gun squads can hop up into their battle cannon Tauroxes in order to make a fire base at an objective. The plasma squad acts as support when I need it. I will probably drop the warlord with this fire base, but that’s not set in stone.
Scions with Vox casters don't also get Hot-shot Lasguns.
You could put the Valkyries in an air Wing Detachment for +1 CP - an Aux Sp Det can only include one unit anyway, so you'd actually be at -3 CP.
Might as well just put all the MT guys in a single Battalion det, not that it really makes a difference.
Either way you're very short on CP; which is an awkward result of the rule of three and going all Tempestus (I'd looked at doing something similar myself, but its not very efficient CP wise). You could drop a lord commissar in the patrol det, and split one 10 man squad into two, to make it a battalion, but you might lose the doctrine (depending on how that rule is interpreted by your opponent).
The major issue you'll have is superheavies, though with this much infantry you should be able to drop on objectives and hopefully hold them long enough to win on VP.

As per one one of the recent FAQ or erratas, Vox Caster Scions and medic Scions can take their hot-shot lasguns for an additional point.
Valkyries can deploy as squadrons, just like Leman Russ Battle Tanks, so I can take up to three in one unit. So, I will only be at 7 CP. I can always change that to an airwing detachment if I know I won’t go first.
I’m going by the most strict interpretation, so no Lord Commissars.
The patrol detachment is just a way for me to keep organized between my fire bases.
Yeah, I figure I will have to ignore the presence of superheavies and go for the objectives, but, I always can give myself better chances with Elimination Protocol Sanctioned, just in case. Plus, if I’m going against a Knight list, I could always drive my patrol up close, use grenadiers, and get lucky throwing lots of Krak grenades.
If the truth can destroy it, then it deserves to be destroyed.

Commissars don't count toward regiment rules so you can add a Lord Commissar as a 4th HQ and get yourself a double battalion. Then run each of the valkyries as a single unit in an Air wing and you pick up 6 CP.

I don't like how RAW the guard faction rules are really funky with the auxillary units.
I think RAI is: If you have any <Regiment> models then the detachment cannot be a Scions Detachment. If you have a <Regiment> detachment then Scions don't count against it. Regardless of whether you have a <Regiment> or Scions detachment then *List of aux keywords like psykers and abhumans* does not count against your faction rule.
That's how I always run it.

Until they clarify the rules interaction, I’m playing as strict as possible in order play anywhere.

Ah right you are, missed that one, too many bits of paper to keep track of - I don't use Vox Casters on mine.

Fair point, I'd forgotten about squadrons, the CP may still be useful either way possibly.

Yeah this one is still up in the air, I'd allow it if you were playing me, but others might not be so lax, it can go either way really till FAQ'd

Also makes sense, at least to keep it organized in your head space, on the battlefield it wouldn't matter either way.

Can I ask where? Because in the FAQ I read that only the Command Squad can do that

Huh, yeah, I guess so, now that I look at it. Weird. Whoever updated BattleScribe didn’t read that too carefully, as he or she still put the option in for regular Scions. I will update this.
Automatically Appended Next Post: There, fixed.

Yes indeed, I think I'll just shut up now!
(and not skim read so much!)
