Blood-Drenched Death Company Marine

Mississippi

Greetings guys & gals, just a quick Bat-Rep from an excellent game against a fantastic opponent yesterday.

First, the Mission:
Open War Deck, we drew Drawn and Quartered (4x Objectives, each one worth one point to the army that is holding it at the end of each player's turn). We had the Restoratives Twist, letting you heal D3 wounds on any single wounded unit, and had the diagonal divided table with a 6" no man's land (12" total) on either side of the central dividing line.

Next, the Armies:
My force consisted of a Battalion of Blood Angels, coupled with a Supreme Command Detachment of Vostroyan Firstborn Imperial Guard, 9 Command Points total.
Blood Angels: Hammer Captain (Angel's Wing Relic & No Storm Shield), Librarian Dreadnought (Veritas Vitae Relic, -1 CP for 2 Relics), Lemartes, with 8x Death Company (2x fists+Bolter & 1x Power Sword+Pistol), a single Sanguinary Novitate with a Jump Pack, a 5 man scout squad, a 5 man tactical squad, and a 5 man Intercessor Squad with air support in the form of a Storm Raven Gunship.
Vostroyan Guard consisted of a Leman Russ Punisher Command Tank, a Leman Russ Vanquiser Command Tank, and a lone Primaris Psyker to throw defensive buffs on the tanks (+1 Save & -1 to hit powers respectively). No CP batteries here kiddos.

My opponent's Tau army consisted of a Battalion and a Vanguard Detachment (9 Command Points)
A Cold Star suit, Shadowsun (with 2x drones), an Etherial, Darkstrider, and a Cadre Fireblade backed up by 2 squads of 4x gun drones, a single riptide, a single unit of 3 all missile equipped broadside battlesuits, a 3 man stealth suit squad (with 2x drones), three single firesight Marksmen, with troops rounding out at two squads of 5x Fire Warriors, and two squads of 12x firewarriors.

-Game Start-

My opponent won the roll to choose sides after we placed the 4 objectives across the table, and he then placed the first unit. I finished deploying first, but then lost the subsequent roll-off to go first and also failed to seize the initiative. On the up-side I did manage to deploy my scouts forward into no-man's land and hold one of the objectives from the start of the game, keeping him from getting to it on his first turn. Prior to game start, I also burned a CP to give my Captain the Death Visions of Sanguinius stratagem for Death Company Keyword and bonuses (+1 attack on the charge and a 6+ feel no pain). Leaving me with 7 CP to start the game.

He proceeded to start the game by moving a squad of five firewarriors up to hold the other objective in no-man's land (opposite side from the scouts) and flew his cold star up to try and knock my storm raven down a peg or 8 with 3x fusion guns. He obliterated one of my Leman Russes with little effort with massed shooting from his squads (The Vanquisher) after marker-lighting it to hell and back and also blasted the Punisher Leman Russ down to 3 wounds (Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow...) as well as killing a single death company model with little effort. Broadsides and riptides with support from Shadowsun hurt. A Lot. The dice did fall favorably for me once though, as only two of the cold star's fusion blasters hit and neither of them wounded (he rolled a 1 and a 2) against the storm raven, so it survived turn one unscathed. He also fired a few missiles at my scouts from the riptide (the ones that can target out of LOS) and killed 3 of the 5, but they hung on to keep the objective. He got two objective points at the end of his turn and I started my side of turn 1. Opponent's total VP: Two

My start of the turn I restored D3 wounds to the 3 wound Punisher, gaining just one wound, but helping bump it back into it's second damage bracket. My opening move I deployed the Novitiate and the Librarian Dreadnought from the Storm Raven and moved them toward the infiltrated Stealth Suit team, cold star, and 5 man Firewarrior team on the nearby objective. I'll note that the stealth suits had also fired at and missed the storm raven with another fusion gun (I told y'all the dice fell favorably for me there). They were the ones responsible for killing the lone death company marine mentioned above with burst cannons. I moved the Death Company + Lemartes & the Novitiate over to engage the stealth suits on the building, and Upon Wings of Fire moved my Captain to charge in on the Cold Star battlesuit. I also flew my storm raven over to the dead center of my enemy's forces to try and drop the small squad of tactical marines out (if it survived) to push the small 5 man firewarrior squad off the objective in the back of his lines. I also failed to bring back the dead death company marine . My Primaris Psyker managed to give the Leman Russ +1 save, though I failed to cast the -1 to hit power. The librarian dreadnought cast Wings of Sanguinius and flew over to land right next to the 5 man firewarrior squad on the objective, though failed to cast Quickening sadly. I then used the Punisher to thin the lines of firewarriors out from their entrenched position on the building along with the storm raven putting a few wounds here and there, but doing very little of note beyond dropping a few drones and firewarriors (sadly). The Librarian Dread used a heavy flamer to kill... ONE... firewarrior. I then did little else with the shooting phase. However I made up for it in the assault phase. My Captain used the 3D6 charge stratagem to charge in on the Coldstar, Lemartes made the charge in on the stealth suits and their accompanying drones, along with the Death Company as well. My total VP: Three

Pre-charge:

Post charge:

As you can see, the cold star and stealth suits crumpled, and the ensuing consolidation took me into the building and toward the objective. I got lucky once again, as my librarian dreadnought killed all but one lone firewarrior, who would have contested the objective (Objective Secured), but he failed his morale and fled thank goodness. I was able to snag three objectives at that point, with my two remaining scouts on one, my 5 man intercessor squad holding the objective deep in my deployment zone in the bottom floor of a building, and my Librarian Dread and Death Company holding the third one.

More pictures of the end of my turn:

(Note the 5 man team holding the 4th objective at the bottom of the building and nearly-dead punisher across the way)

Sadly, my opponent and I forgot to take any further pictures. Hopefully the visuals helped.

Very little movement from my opponent's side on turn two. Sadly, my storm raven was quickly decimated on the opening of the round two shooting phase, the 5 man tactical squad survived the crash unscathed, landing where they could potentially contest the objective, but sadly they did not survive the wall of plasma shots coming from the fire warriors and riptide. The two remaining scouts were also destroyed from more indirect missile fire from the riptide. The Leman Russ did manage to only take 2 wounds, knocking it down to 2 wounds remaining. Still in the fight! My opponent gained a third victory point from his 5 man firewarrior team on the ground floor of the building housing most of his infantry. Total opponent VP's: Three

My turn two saw me move the Librarian up angling closer to where the scouts had been killed, and also moving my Captain forward with Lemartes, still in the building with the objective but closer to the T'au line. The Sanguinary Novitiate moved up to hold the objective the Librarian Dread had cleared the previous turn, and I Upon Wings of Fire moved the 7 man Death Company over to where the scouts had been to land on the objective in a building and hold it on my turn. Other than the scouts, the next closest model was the riptide, which was about 11 to 12 inches away from it. The Librarian Dread cast wings again, and flew forward to land behind a building but still visible to the Riptide. I cast Smite and inflicted a couple of mortal wounds to the Riptide. I healed another 2 wounds onto the Leman Russ so it was able to shoot again, this time targeting the Broadsides in an effort to knock down a few shield drones and make it easier to hurt them if my Captain made it in on them in the ensuing turn. I managed to kill one drone and inflict one wound on the broadsides. Not very impressive sadly. No charges this turn, but I was able to get into a better position for ensuing turns. I grabbed three more objective points at the end of my turn. My Total VP's: Six

Turn three. My opponent decided to push out some on Turn 3, as he needed to take and hold some objectives to have any chance of catching up. My intercessors were, much like the 5 man firewarrior team on his side of the board, holding one objective very firmly, the other two were reasonably close to take. He moved Shadowsun up in such a way as she could target the Librarian Dreadnought with her 2 fusion guns. He also jumped the Riptide to the top of the building the death company had just landed on. The five man fire team of fire warriors on his objective moved out to assist Shadowsun with some support fire and the other squad still in the building moved down to keep the objective on the ground secured. Que shooting phase... the Leman Russ tank is finally destroyed. The Death Company take all the no LOS missile shots and the giant riptide burst cannon as well and are completely picked up. Shadowsun shoots the Libarian Dread and does six wounds to him with the one successful fusion gun hit+wound. Oof.. He's still standing, though. One more turn of my opponent only getting one victory point helps me maintain my lead. Total opponent VP's: 4

I start my turn three and heal another D3 on my Librarian Dreadnought for... One wound. Ugh. Ok, well it's better than nothing, right? Right. So Lemartes jumps out about ~4 inches from Shadowsun. The Sanguinary Novitiate hangs out on the objective, the Captain Upon Wings of Fire (last command point) jumps over to land near the Riptide which is on the very top floor of the building. The Librarian Dreadnought flys over to land on the objective the death company just got shot off of, the squad of intercessors continues their rousing poker game around the back objective in a building, and the Primaris Psyker moves out from his position near where the last leman russ was sitting closer to the riptide. Both the Primaris Psyker and Librarian Dreadnought smite the riptide for a few wounds, nothing special but every little bit helps. Very little shooting now as most of my army is dead/in cover/on objectives. My Captain makes the charge, and flies on up to hopefully put some wounds on ye ole riptide. Five attacks! Roll two hits.... (Two 2's..Ugh), one of the misses is a 1, so reroll that in hopes of a third hit. Nope. Rolled a 2. Damn. Oh well, two hits at least, with Artisan of War that's potentially 8 damage. Roll to wound! One wound. Of course I'd roll a 1. Oh well.. Four damage to the riptide if it fails it's save. My opponent just rolled a 6. Awesome. No damage. The silver lining to the dark cloud is that the captain survives the swings back without incident. Lemartes kills one drone and gets one wound through Shadowsun's saves for D3 damage. Another one. . No injuries are taken with Shadowsun's swingbacks, so the silver lining continues. Turn ends with me still holding three objectives. My total VP: 9.

Turn four. The Riptide falls back from combat (A wise move) after healing up two or three (I can't recall exactly) wounds. The Captain is left shouting angrily after it. I only hope his insults did more damage than his hammer managed to. Shadowsun falls back toward the Sanguinary Novitiate and the objective he's holding. Firewarriors that moved out with Shadowsun move up a little more. Shooting occurs and the Captain + Lemartes are turned into fine red mist. The Librarian Dreadnought takes a wound or two but is still standing. Turn ends with my opponent getting another single victory point. Opponent's Total VP: 5

My turn four begins with the Librarian Dreadnought healing one wound (again..) and moving over to attack the Riptide now, leaving the objective point finally. The Primaris Psyker follows suit as he was very close by when the riptide landed. Sanguinary Novitate holds his ground on the objective he's been on since landing on Turn 3, and the Primaris Intercessor squads start taking bets on which character will be the last to die while holding their objective. Both psykers cast Smite and hurt the Riptide a bit more with mortal wounds, Libarian Dread gets Quickening to cast for bonus attacks. The Librarian flames the riptide with a heavy flamer and does negligible damage to the riptide (I don't recall if I hurt it, honestly). The Primaris Psyker charges first in an effort to dodge the overwatch and hopefully allow the librarian dread to make it in without overwatch. Sadly the Primaris Psyker is squishy AF and he dies spectacularly. Librarian Dread charges in and also eats a face full of overwatch but manages to survive with ONE (or was it two?) wound left! Happy Days! I swing and manage to do six damage to the riptide, finally finishing it off. Two more victory points earned. My total VP: 11

Turn five, final turn, I've pretty well gotten the game wrapped up but we play it out. My opponent moves Shadowsun up to within range of the objective and shooting the Sanguinary Novitiate off of said objective, minor shuffling of models happens but otherwise not much movement occurs. Shadowsun obliterates the Sanguinary Novitate with melta. I mean it's bad. Smoking boots are all that remain. The Libarian Dread finally dies to the broadsides pumping all the missiles into him. It's spectacular. My opponent finishes his turn getting another victory point with Shadowsun beyond the one he's held all game. Opponent's VP: 7

My turn five begins, I have one squad of Intercessors left hidden in a building on one objective. I shake my opponent's hand, as there's nothing even in range for them to shoot. The game ends with my total VP at 12 versus 7 for him.

A fantastic game for sure. I was able to make up for going second by using mobility to keep my opponent hemmed in and unable to grab objectives after destroying his mobile elements turn one. He did a great job of reacting, but by forcing him to stay on his heels and deal with the aggressive units, it prevented him from branching out toward any of the other three objectives on the board. His tactics were sound, using shadowsun's ability to let all units re-roll failed to hit rolls if they stood still in the movement phase on both the riptide and the broadside team for two turns. Things died, violently. Thank Sanguinius for mobility! That's all I've got to say.

I hope y'all enjoyed this little battle report, and thanks for reading along also.

Take it easy.

Addendum: My opponent had Shield drones, not gun drones. My mistake. I just call all drones gun drones out of habit. Derp.

Take it easy.

Thanks for the rep!

Just a few suggestions in the future (if you keep doing written reports:
1) Make it easy for readers to follow turn to turn by breaking it up; i.e. a space with the turn name and army name in a different color and bold/underlined.
2) Post lists in an easy to read manner... lists get you a lot more readers; use Battlescribe because it helps to get a well formatted list thats easy to read. I even have my opponents write down their list for me if I'm repping, avoids mistakes.
3) More pictures. Pictures tell more than a thousand words, and it shows off your minis and helps draw peoples attention to details such as lines of sight, battle lines, etc.

Keep up the good work, I love written reports (videos, to me, are annoying because half the video is rolling/talking/pointing out stuff, I miss Frontlines video reps...).
